Wolves are down but can still finish above Burnley – and Opta’s final predicted Premier League table is now available for viewing.
The Old Gold’s fate was sealed a couple of weeks ago, and had been on the cards for quite some time.
It has been a disastrous season for Wolves, who have lost their top-flight status after eight years and must now prepare for life in the Championship.
How confident are you in Nuno’s prediction about Wolves after the club’s relegation was confirmed?
And was his exit the turning point at Molineux? 🤔
Poor planning and abysmal recruitment have played a huge part in this mess, and fans have been dismayed by countless performances this term.
And many are now questioning whether Rob Edwards is the right man to lead the rebuild.
Wanderers are threatening to finish the season with a real whimper – and Opta have now shared their predicted final table.

Wolves projected to finish rock bottom

Wolves are obviously relegated, but there is still the chance to finish above Burnley, who currently sit two points above in 19th. They also have a goal difference of -36 to Wolves’ -38, which could become a factor.
The Clarets have also had a really poor season and were officially relegated after they lost to Manchester City.
The only thing left to play for now for Wolves is to try and finish above Burnley and give the fans at least something to take from this disastrous campaign.
But Opta’s final projected table reveals that Wolves will fall short of doing that, finishing with a final tally of 21.06 points, to Burnley’s 22.75.
Interestingly, the table shows that West Ham United will be the third team to drop, with a final tally of 39.16. Tottenham Hotspur are projected to finish 17th with 41.12.
Wolves’ lowest-ever points tally in a Premier League season is 25, set in the 2011/12 season which ended in relegation, of course.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 15 | 34 | 11 | 10 | 13 | 36 | 42 | -6 | 43 | |
| 16 | 35 | 11 | 9 | 15 | 44 | 46 | -2 | 42 | |
| 17 | 35 | 9 | 10 | 16 | 45 | 54 | -9 | 37 | |
| 18 | 35 | 9 | 9 | 17 | 42 | 61 | -19 | 36 | |
| 19 | 35 | 4 | 8 | 23 | 35 | 71 | -36 | 20 | |
| 20 | 35 | 3 | 9 | 23 | 25 | 63 | -38 | 18 |
What’s interesting is that Wolves and Burnley actually play against each other on the final day of the season.
So there’s every chance that that fixture will decide who finishes bottom of the pile.
Before that, Wolves have Brighton away and Fulham at home, and Burnley have Aston Villa at home and Arsenal away.
Rob Edwards needs a strong finish
Rob Edwards was appointed with the Championship in mind, but it should not be a given that he leads Wolves into the 2026/27 campaign – especially if things carry on as they are.
Wolves have been so poor since the last international break concluded, and fans are really starting to turn on Edwards.
How confident are you in Nuno’s prediction about Wolves after the club’s relegation was confirmed?
And was his exit the turning point at Molineux? 🤔
He was jeered after the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and again at the weekend after the draw with Sunderland, with the manager heading straight down the tunnel.
Yes he’s working with a squad that lacks so many things, but ultimately his record has been poor since he came in.
So, with many fans now on his back, he’ll need to deliver something in these final three games to ensure he definitely gets to lead the charge in the Championship.
