The ‘fantastic’ thing Gary O’Neil has shown Wolves players ahead of final game v Liverpool

Wolves manager Gary O’Neil ensured his players were celebrated for their high moments in the 2023/24 campaign, sharing what the club did for the squad to remember some key results of the season.

It’s been a remarkable season for Wolves in what was Gary O’Neil’s first campaign in charge of the Old Gold, despite recent results seeing form plummet ahead of the summer.

There was little hope in the squad at the start of the 2023/24 calendar, as Julen Lopetegui left his post just three days before the Premier League season opener, seeing O’Neil take the reigns in a hectic scenario.

Soon into his time at Molineux, fans were able to see why the club hired the former Bournemouth manager, as performance level suggested that there would be more to the season than simply ensuring survival.

A host of memorable results and most importantly, impressive performances, were recorded during the campaign, which Wolves will aim to end on a high at Anfield against Liverpool on Sunday.

With the final game at Molineux coming last week against Crystal Palace, O’Neil shared with the media what he did in order to ensure his players were celebrated for their efforts this term.

Gary O’Neil celebrated his Wolves squad ahead of final game against Liverpool

As relayed by Express and Star, O’Neil was keen to relive some of the highest points of the 2023/24 campaign with his players, sharing that the squad were presented with a video to highlight some key moments.

“We did a video to show the players some of the fantastic things they’ve achieved this season.

“You go back to Stamford Bridge, White Hart Lane, Tottenham here in the last few minutes and Manchester City.

“There’s so many fantastic things that we’ve been able to achieve, but we need to find a way to make sure we keep moving forward.”

It was a heartwarming gesture to celebrate the efforts of the players in what has been a dreary end to the campaign as a result of injury and fatigue, where Wolves have lost six of their previous nine in the league.

Wolves players deserved to relive the top results of the season

For all of the negativity swarming around Molineux at the start of the campaign, it’s been a remarkable outcome for O’Neil and his squad, with some of the performances mentioned by the boss epitomising the belief that has been installed in the players.

The result against Manchester City back in September was crucial to kickstart the season after an inconsistent start, with the home win to Spurs doing the same shortly after.

Matheus Cunha’s hattrick against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Joao Gomes’ dazzling brace in North London were standout moments among many others, in what has been a time to relish what the manager has achieved in his first season.

With one game remaining, all attention will soon turn to the summer, where O’Neil will hope to build on the highs of his first term at Molineux in order to make the 2024/25 campaign another one to remember.
