The current percentage chance of relegation for Wolves amid three-game unbeaten run

Wolves have left themselves with zero margin for error, but the picture is not completely closed in terms of relegation, with Opta sharing a new percentage chance.

Results and performances have improved in recent weeks under Rob Edwards, and the fixture list offers something few sides around them can claim. There is still work to be done, and there are still points to play for.

Wolves sit on 17 points and remain 13 adrift of safety, with West Ham United, Tottenham Hotspur, Nottingham Forest and Leeds United all ahead. The gap reflects a season that has not delivered anywhere near enough wins.

There has been a shift under Edwards though, with Wolves now on a three-game unbeaten run, with wins of Aston Villa and Liverpool, and a draw with Brentford. That sequence has given them a platform to build from ahead of the run-in.

The current standings show Wolves rooted in the bottom three with a significant deficit to overcome. The Old Gold are chasing multiple teams and must close a double-digit gap with a limited number of fixtures left.

The gap to safety is 13 points, and essentially Wolves need to win all their remaining games. A tall order indeed.

But despite Wolves’ position, there is still a shred of hope.

Amid the three-game unbeaten run, Opta data has indicated Wolves have a 99.93% chance of being relegated at the moment, meaning only a fraction of a chance to avoid the drop.

But that figure not being 100% will mean the players will fight until the very end.

Wolves have ‘easiest’ run in

There is one factor that keeps the situation from being completely closed. It was reported recently by The Analyst that Wolves actually have the easiest run-in in the league based on remaining fixture difficulty.

That schedule gives them a higher concentration of matches against sides lower in the difficulty rankings, meaning a shred of hope.

The recent three-game unbeaten run aligns with that opportunity, as Wolves have already begun to show a level of consistency.

Wolves still have games left to play and points available in each of them, with the table and fixture list defining exactly what is required. The numbers leave almost no room, but while there is a small chance the Wolves players will fight until the end.
