A lot of Wolves fans pinpointed Pedro Neto as a potential stand out player for Wolves for the 2022/23 season.
The youngster suffered a broken patella in the 2020/21 season after he had enjoyed a fantastic campaign, and he did not return until February 2022.
He ended up making 13 appearances last term, and it was really all about Neto just trying to get minutes under his belt after his serious injury.
He finished the season with a goal against Liverpool, and then weeks later he returned for pre-season earlier than most of his teammates.
In the games out in Alicante, Neto looked really sharp.
He scored against Deportivo Alaves and Besiktas, and he gave the impression that he raring to go.
But Neto has unfortunately really struggled since the start of 2022/23 and has been unable to carry his pre-season form through.
The 22-year-old has not scored or assisted yet, and seems to be really lacking confidence.
He has regularly failed to beat his man, and has been strangely wasteful with his crossing. Particularly from the right wing.
An alarming statistic about the star is now doing the rounds on social media.
According to The Other 14, Neto has actually had 37 touches in the opposition penalty area so far.
That is a lot of touches for no goals or assists.
It suggests that while Neto is getting into advanced positions, he is just not being effective with the ball.
International break has come at the right time for Pedro Neto
Neto has perhaps been the most disappointing Wolves player so far this season. Purely on the basis of how great he looked just before the 2022/23 season kicked off.
Nothing has come off for him so far, and he has cut a very frustrated figure at times.
There was some transfer speculation involving Arsenal a few weeks back – hopefully that hasn’t been playing on his mind.
The international break is now upon us, and it is a good time for Neto to just reset and recalibrate. He’s with the Portugal squad at the moment, and it could be good for him to just be away from Molineux and Compton Park.
He remains a fantastic talent and he just needs to get his head down and work.
