The alarming Wolves statistic Rob Edwards must now fix, it totally shames Vitor Pereira

We’ve all seen how much Wolves have struggled this season, and there’s one especially poor statistic Rob Edwards must rectify.

Edwards became Wolves’ new manager last week, with the club swooping for their former defender to be Vitor Pereira’s successor.

Pereira was sacked after the 3-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage, and the Portuguese couldn’t have any complaints.

He’d overseen a terrible start, and Wolves will now do extremely well to get out of the current mess.

One of the biggest issues Vitor Pereira had was getting Wolves to score on a consistent basis.

And one statistic has emerged today that really does shame the former Molineux head coach.

As well as being bottom of the table on just two points, Wolves have scored the fewest goals in the Premier League so far.

And what is really worrying is that Wolves, as per BBC Sport, have scored just four times from open play this season in the Premier League.

That is down a whopping 10 from this same point last season.

This is by far the biggest drop-off of any team in the division, with Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur next on six fewer each than last season.

So it’s vital that Rob Edwards now finds a way of getting his players to create better quality chances from open play.

There has been a lot of criticism of Jorgen Strand Larsen this season and while the Norwegian has been disappointing, there is no doubt that he has lacked good service.

Open play goals stat is a terrible reflection on Vitor Pereira

To have scored 10 fewer goals from open play compared to the same stage last season is really worrying.

And it’s a stat that definitely reflects really badly on Pereira.

It cannot be forgotten that Pereira played a very big part in Wolves’ transfer business in the summer, along with Domenico Teti.

So he is greatly responsible for the construction of the current squad, which features six new recruits that did not have any Premier League experience before this season.

Wolves were losing players left, right and centre in the summer, including game-changers like Matheus Cunha, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Pablo Sarabia.

Creativity was bound to take a hit with players like that leaving, but recruitment should have been better.

It was claimed Wolves bent to Pereira and Teti when it came to signing players in the summer, with the recruitment team’s targets overlooked.

So unfortunately, this statistic rather shames the former manager, and is something Edwards must now try to rectify as quickly as possible.
