Steve Davis hails Hugo Bueno after his performance against Arsenal

Hugo Bueno came in for more praise from Steve Davis, following Wolves’ 2-0 defeat to Arsenal last night.

Wolves will now spend the next month on the bottom of the Premier League table, after losing to the Premier League leaders at Molineux.

Wolves did well in the first-half and restricted Arsenal, having set up with a back three.

Wolves were very unlucky not to have been awarded a penalty early on when Goncalo Guedes was fouled by William Saliba in the area.

Guedes was given offside, and Davis was enraged after the game that the decision was not overturned by Mike Dean on VAR.

In the end, Arsenal won the game courtesy of two goals from Martin Odegaard.

So the break has now started for Wolves, and Julen Lopetegui has a lot of work to do to get this team into a better place.

But it’s likely he’ll be pleased with Bueno and what he has shown in recent weeks.

Bueno was once again one of Wolves’ better performers last night, having come back into the starting XI after being rested against Leeds United in midweek.

Davis hailed the youngster after the game. He said: “I thought the wing-backs were excellent. Hugo’s growing in strength every game, I thought he kept Saka quiet, and had a fantastic game.”

Saka has been one of the best forwards in the Premier League season.

He came into the game having scored seven goals and made three assists. He needed to be kept in check, and his involvement was fairly minimal thanks to Bueno.

Hugo Bueno continues to impress for Wolves, and his level of involvement from here on in will be interesting

So that’s five first-team appearances now for Bueno, and he has started the last four Premier League games.

He has been fantastic since coming into the team, and thoroughly deserves to have kept his place since making his full debut against Crystal Palace.

It will now be very interesting to see what happens with him moving forwards.

Davis obviously knew him very well from the youth setup.

But he has now proven himself at Premier League level.

Lopetegui is coming in, and it remains to be seen if he will continue to pick the 20-year-old. It certainly doesn’t feel like he should be going back to the U21s.
