Steve Bull urges Wolves to keep Daniel Podence

Wolves legend Steve Bull thinks the club should be looking to keep hold of Daniel Podence.

The winger is currently the subject of speculation about his future.

Podence has just one year left on his contract at Molineux.

In recent days, there have been suggestions that Wolves are open to selling the player.

Apparently, Real Betis have been showing interest in the 27-year-old. It was claimed recently that Jorge Mendes had offered the player to the Spanish outfit, with Wolves asking for £8.5 million.

Shortly after the 2022/23 season ended, Podence was one of a few Wolves players mentioned as being a potential outgoing due to the concerns about FFP.

But in the eyes of Bull, Wolves should keep him.

Steve Bull thinks Wolves should be keeping Daniel Podence

Bull has been talking about the current state of play at Wolves in his latest Express & Star column.

He has urged Wolves to start bringing players in now, after selling Ruben Neves, Conor Coady and Nathan Collins.

But he touched on the Podence speculation too. He reckons it wouldn’t be wise to sell the Portuguese attacker.

He said: “There are rumours circulating about Daniel Podence leaving the club, and like I said at the top of this column we are getting rid of too many players, and in fact, we need to be making additions.

“Podence is a tricky winger and he is a very good player. We should try and keep hold of him.”

Last season, Podence was Wolves’ joint-top goalscorer along with Neves.

He featured pretty heavily for the first two-thirds of the campaign.

In the last couple of months of the season though he did lose prominence, with Julen Lopetegui even leaving him out entirely against Tottenham Hotspur in March. He was also overlooked for the squad against Arsenal on the final day.

Wolves should sell Daniel Podence for the right money

Podence is definitely a player Wolves should indeed be listening to offers for this summer.

This is natural, because he’s only got one year left. Ideally, the club want to avoid losing him for nothing.

And realistically, as good as Podence can be, he still lacks consistency.

He is a technically gifted player who has the potential to turn any game on its head.

But Podence can also be very frustrating at times. He can be guilty of overdoing things and this can wear thin, especially when Wolves are not in a winning position.

Wolves have done well with their sales so far this summer, so hopefully the club can get a good fee for Podence.
