Wolves legend Steve Bull has now urged Fosun to replenish Gary O’Neil’s side in the summer transfer window.
The summer will finally present Gary O’Neil with the opportunity to bolster his Wolves squad after combatting the 2023/24 season with limited numbers.
Wolves secured a 14th-place finish in the Premier League, with form dipping in the latter stages as the lack of depth in the side became glaringly detrimental.
Speaking ahead of the upcoming transfer window, club legend Steve Bull has urged Fosun to back O’Neil in areas beyond the front line.

Steve Bull says Wolves need to sign more than just a striker this summer
While Jeff Shi has hinted that Wolves will sign a striker this summer, it’s imperative that more than just the number nine role is replenished.
Such opinion is shared by Steve Bull, who emphasised Wolves’ need to be present in the transfer market this summer in his column for Express and Star, writing:
“I’ll keep saying it until the season starts, we need signings!
“We need a striker but it’s also not just about the forward line. When Craig Dawson was injured you could tell we needed another experienced defender.
“When Mario Lemina or Joao Gomes were out I also felt we needed another midfielder. But picking up a number nine has to be a priority.”
Bull’s comments ring true as while Wolves need a striker, the squad rarely lacked in the goals department, with other key absences proving to be costly for the Old Gold.
Wolves have a lot of work to do this summer in the transfer window
While signing a number nine will be the Old Gold’s priority, Fosun must show O’Neil adequate financial support to ensure the squad is well-stocked ahead of 2024/25.
At the point of the manager’s arrival at Molineux last summer, many assumed the Midlands side would be candidates for relegation after losing a list of star names due to the need to generate profit.
Instead, the boss led his side to achieve a five-point improvement on the 2022/23 campaign.
Now, the club must repay O’Neil’s tremendous work with backing in the window, with all positions needing to be restocked.
As a baseline, Wolves would benefit from hiring as many as two players per position to add to the depth, that is without taking into account that some stars could leave.
In February, O’Neil shared his concern over Wolves’ small squad, admitting that the end of the campaign would be ‘tough’. It was a concern that became a reality as the club won just one of their last 10 games.
There is significant work to be done at Molineux in the transfer window to ensure that O’Neil’s squad can continue to progress, with the team still far from where it needs to be to move higher up the table.
