Steve Bull hands Rob Edwards two bits of advice if he wants to succeed at Wolves

The Rob Edwards era at Molineux is kicking off, and legendary striker Steve Bull is looking forward to seeing Wolves play.

Bull had previously sent fans a message urging them to get behind Edwards, and whether that message has been heard loud and clear will be evident when the Old Gold face Crystal Palace.

There is already some excitement building with three youngsters seemingly set to be part of Wolves’ squad.

And with the Old Gold dealing with three injuries, the injection of youth will be a welcome addition.

However, if the Wanderers are to beat Crystal Palace, Edwards must show that the club are a different side than they were under Vitor Pereira.

And Steve Bull has set out two key issues that he must fix.

Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?

Rob Edwards must fix Wolves’ attack and defence

Steve Bull is a man who knows quite a bit about scoring goals for Wolves.

The former Wolves striker scored 306 for the club during his playing career, so when he starts to talk about that line of work, you simply have to listen.

With Rob Edwards now set to take charge of the Old Gold, the 60-year-old has given him bits of advice on what must be fixed first, and he is an expert in one area.

Bull said via his column for the Express and Star, “The key area for him to improve is to stop leaking silly goals. We’re letting a lot in, but we’re not scoring many as well.

“So we’ve got to stop letting the goals in and create a lot more chances because our forwards who’re up there are getting very frustrated due to a lack of service.

“The task is to strengthen the back three, or the back five, and start feeding the strikers the balls that they need.”

It is a very simple analysis from Bull, but there is a lot of truth in it, and sometimes the simplest issues are the ones that need to be fixed and can have a big impact.

With the form of Ismaila Sarr, this advice must be heard; Wolves will need to be wary of the Senegalese star and keep their defensive line tight and organised.

Club captain Toti Gomes could be key in aiding those efforts, and the Wolves defender believes Rob Edwards is the perfect appointment.

Jeff Shi and Rob Edwards hatch a plan

“I spoke about it with Jeff. We have a job on our hands this season, but I do want to be here long-term. To do that I need results. We have to be realistic, but my focus is on doing a good job and making sure we’re a PL club next season, but there is some realism too.”

Wolves are the worst defensive and attacking side in the Premier League

Rob Edwards’ job is massive, and turning Wolves from the worst at defending and scoring into a much-improved outfit will take time.

However, with the relegation fight looking much more difficult to survive in this season, there may not be a grace period for Edwards to do so.

Wolves have scored fewer goals (7) than each of the other 19 teams in the Premier League, and they have also conceded more (25) than the other 19.

If that does not paint a picture of the turnaround Edwards must complete, then we are not sure what will.

Let’s hope the start of his tenure kicks off with a bang, and the Old Gold pull a major surprise.
