Steve Bull asks Wolves fans to give struggling player some ‘leeway’ amid recent criticism

Wolves’ lack of goalscoring has been a problem, and fans have been criticising the players who operate in the final third for the Old Gold – but Steve Bull has now asked for them to ease off the negativity.

Before Wolves play Arsenal, they have just eight goals in 15 Premier League matches. Additionally, no player in the side has scored more than once in the league.

Rob Edwards has now lost one of his attacking sparks, as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde’s injury timeline has been provided.

That will be a big blow to not only the head coach but also Wolves’ number nine, Jorgen Strand Larsen, who would have appreciated the Haitian’s efforts to get the ball forward.

Larsen has been subject to criticism from the fanbase, but legendary figure Steve Bull has now made a request ahead of facing Arsenal.

How many points can you see Wolves getting over their next five matches? 🤔

If anyone can recognise what is going wrong for a Wolves forward, then Steve Bull certainly holds the credentials.

The Molineux legend is one of the very best goal scorers the Wanderers have ever had, and he believes some of the criticism for Jorgen Strand Larsen is unfair.

Bull suggests that the Norwegian is trying his very best, but those around him are not making it easy.

Steve Bull said (via Express and Star), “Jorgen Strand Larsen got some stick from the fans, and nobody wants to hear that when you’re coming off the pitch, especially when you’ve given your all.

“He was hard done by; he’s running himself into the ground but getting no service. If he was getting chances but missing them, I’d understand it, but it’s just not happening for him. He’s only doing what he can to help the team.

“The supporters have every right to voice their opinion; they pay the money, but when a player does his best, sometimes you have to give him some leeway and recognise the lack of service he is getting.”

Rob Edwards has also echoed Bull’s sentiment and has defended his number nine. Edwards believes that Larsen ‘really cares’ about Wolves and that his lack of confidence has played a role in his poor form.

Criticism for the forward has not only come from inside the Wolves fanbase, as Darren Bent laid into Larsen following his display vs Man United.

Jorgen Strand Larsen this season vs last season

There is truth behind Strand Larsen not getting service, and the data relays it.

So far, the Norwegian is getting half of his shots on target per 90 as compared to last season, and his xG per 90 has also more than halved.

Wolves’ centre forward is not getting chances, and that is an issue.

The loss of Matheus Cunha and the poor recruitment to properly replace him has now left the Old Gold’s striker isolated.

Jorgen Strand Larsen, despite his 6’4″ frame, is not the type of forward for whom you can play long balls to win.

He likes to get the ball to feet and run at defenders, and right now, Wolves are not playing to his strengths.

However, if this is the method they want to use to relieve pressure and get it into the number nine, Tolu Arokodare might be the better option.
