Steve Bull celebrated his 60th birthday on Friday, 28th March, and the Wolves legend has now recalled one ‘scary’ moment after moving to Molineux.
Bull was signed from Black Country rivals West Bromwich Albion for a fee of around £65,000 alongside Andy Thompson in 1986.
The stocky striker quickly became a local hero at Wolves, winning the hearts of fans with his ruthless finishing and fierce attitude on the pitch.
From being a relatively unknown talent to writing his name into folklore at Molineux, Bull spent 13 years at the club and bagged an incredible 306 goals in 561 appearances.
He’s gone on to become a club ambassador and vice-president at Wolves, something he perhaps couldn’t have envisaged after joining almost 40 years ago.

Steve Bull almost regretted joining Wolves
Bull joined Wolves when they were in the fourth division of English football and during his first campaign at the club, he struck 19 goals as his side narrowly missed out on promotion.
Thankfully, during his 13-year stint, he helped fire Wolves into the second division, entering the 21st century as an established side at that level.
But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Bull, especially when he first joined the club, as he recalled the ‘scary’ moment when he walked through the corridor and was greeted by water all over the place and cockroaches.
In an interview with the E&S on his 60th birthday, Bull said: “To look back now on the years I’ve been here, I’ve been privileged.
“Next year is 40 years I’ve been here and I remember the day me and Thommo came, it was scary. On that first day we walked through the corridor there was water all over the place, cockroaches everywhere and we’d just come from that stripy lot up the road and we thought ‘what have we done?’
“But they didn’t want us. It’s their loss and Wolves’ gain.”
Bull’s goal bonus at Wolves
Wolves gain was a clinical striker who could score all types of goals, including chips, headers, volleys, bullying defenders with his physicality and cutting edge.
He was essentially an old-fashioned striker who wasn’t renowned for his technical ability, more so just being in the right place at the right time to score.
Interestingly, during his time at the club, Bull received a goal bonus for every time he found the net, revealing that to be £100.
“I absolutely loved doing it,” he said when asked about scoring goals. “I’d love to revisit certain games and turn back the clock, but I’ve done my bit now, I’m enjoying my life.
“My talent was to score goals. I haven’t got any skill at all, but I banged them in the net. That was my job, full stop, and I absolutely loved it.
“Plus, I was on £100 a goal, so I needed to score more goals!”
