Wolves crashed to defeat once again in the Premier League against Brentford – and Matt Doherty gave an emotionally charged interview after the game.
Wolves fell to a 2-0 home defeat against the Bees, with a Keane Lewis-Potter brace the difference.
Wanderers were in the game for a long period, until some shockingly slack defending allowed Brentford to break the deadlock.
Lewis-Potter then doubled the visitors’ lead, with Wolves showing zero attacking quality.
There was a chance to get back into the game with a penalty, but Jorgen Strand Larsen, so devoid of confidence right now, could not convert.
Wolves have now equalled Sheffield United’s record low points total at Christmas, and relegation this season looks a certainty.
It’s a difficult situation for all, but Matt Doherty’s interview after yesterday’s game was one that fans appreciated.

Matt Doherty questions Wolves teammates after Brentford defeat

Fans could barely believe what they were seeing at times yesterday.
Once the first goal went in, that was essentially the game for Brentford, and the lack of intensity was startling.
Although there was a chance to set up an interesting finish with the penalty, Wolves were just toothless. And Edwards’ record of losing all six games despite drawing at half-time is a major concern.
But many are mainly criticising the players right now, and Doherty had some strong remarks after yesterday’s game, as he questioned whether they want to be remembered for fighting, or for being ‘cowards’.
He said (via Wolves official): “We need to do some soul searching and have a look in the mirror and just figure out what we want to be remembered for at the club.
What do you make of Matt Doherty’s post-Brentford remarks? 🤔
It was an emotionally-charged interview…
“Do we want to be remembered for fighting all the way to the end of season, or do we want to be remembered for being cowards and taking the easy option, maybe trying to leave in January, or not fighting and training, and letting other people take your position?
“We need to look at ourselves in the mirror and figure out how we want to be remembered at the club.”
The comments of a captain
Doherty’s interview is now doing the rounds on social media, and his comments are understandably being picked up by lots of outlets.
But his remarks show him to be a real leader.

Doherty has obviously been at Wolves a long time, across a couple of spells, and he really understands the club and how much this all means to the fans.
His comments really strike the right tone. Some players will definitely have been thinking about leaving in January and perhaps Doherty’s comments will force one or two to look at themselves in the mirror.
