Some Wolves fans will sympathise as Rob Edwards makes heartfelt admission in new Sky interview

Rob Edwards has walked into an extremely difficult job at Wolves, but one admission he’s made in a new interview with Sky Sports proves he deserves the support of the fans.

Rob Edwards replaced Vitor Pereira last month, with Wolves prising him away from Middlesbrough.

The move was controversial, with Wolves having to fork out a compensation fee. And many Boro fans were not happy to say the least.

It’s crystal clear for Rob Edwards what needs to happen at Wolves

“We need to become us, and if we do these things consistently, they give us a chance of getting points and winning games.”

But for Edwards, Wolves were a dream job. Even despite the club’s terrible position at the moment.

He had, of course, represented the club as a player. And he also held coaching roles and even managed the first-team for a couple of games on an interim basis in 2016.

Edwards loves the club – and that has shone through in an interview that Sky Sports have released ahead of tonight’s game with Manchester United.

Wolves appointed Edwards feeling that he will be a good manager for the long term.

Obviously, the hierarchy are desperately hoping that he can keep the club in the top-flight.

But Wolves also feel that the club would be in good hands with Edwards if the club did drop into the Championship.

Wolves do look highly likely to go down at this point. But Edwards will continue to work hard, and has admitted he fears letting supporters down.

He said: “I think the bit that sort of stresses me out the most is, I feel it, and I don’t like letting people down. I don’t like letting the supporters down. That hurts. That’s the bit that I carry.

“I go round to try and show my appreciation at the end and you see people, you see their frustrations and I feel it. It’s hard, that bit’s really difficult.

Wolves fans, will you be giving Rob Edwards the benefit of the doubt in the coming months?

He's walked into a house on fire, but it's clear how deeply he cares about the club 🐺

“I think the bit that sort of stresses me out the most is, I feel it, and I don’t like letting people down. I don’t like letting the supporters down. That hurts. That’s the bit that I carry.

“I’m desperate for the supporters to feel proud of the team and that’s the bit that keeps me up at night. That’s the bit that’s really, really difficult.”

“It was always going to be the case (that I’d feel it more because it’s my club).

“I know we’re only a couple of weeks in, but you know coming here, it is going to end at some stage as well. These are all the things that go through your head and you think you ever want it to end. And all those things go through your head and you want to make people proud.

“I’m desperate for the supporters to feel proud of the team and that’s the bit that keeps me up at night. That’s the bit that’s really, really difficult.”

Edwards deserves patience after heartfelt Wolves admission

Edwards has walked into an incredibly difficult job and for that alone he deserves credit.

But these comments he made in the interview with Sky really do hammer it home that he loves this football club.

He is going to make mistakes, and the likelihood is that he won’t keep Wolves up.

And while he obviously shouldn’t get a free pass, he undoubtedly deserves support and patience from fans in these coming months, because it’s obvious he cares deeply and will work his socks off. The problems will extend far beyond him.

Edwards has inherited a mess which has been created by Fosun, and that is where the anger and frustrations should be directed.
