Some Wolves fans have a shock theory after Matheus Cunha watched win vs West Ham from the stands

Wolves played host to West Ham in the Premier League and fans were all left making the same point about forward Matheus Cunha.

In a week when Cunha has hinted at leaving Wolves, the blow has been softened by Yerson Mosquera and Joao Gomes signing new contracts.

Gomes started in midfield for Vitor Pereira’s men as Wolves clinched a 1-0 victory over West Ham thanks to a Jorgen Strand Larsen winner.

It was a dominant first-half from the Old Gold, who put the Hammers to the sword without building on their advantage while the second period saw them defend resolutely to keep a clean sheet.

Impressively, it was the second match in a row that Wolves have won without the suspended Cunha, and fans have taken to social media to have their say on the Brazilian.

Wolves fans think they’re better off without Matheus Cunha

Wolves fans weren’t happy with Cunha after he expressed his desire to leave Molineux before the 2024/25 season is even over.

Cunha urged fans to read the whole interview, emphasising that his comment was taken out of context in the grand scheme of things.

But, the fanbase was just left feeling even angrier and as the forward watched on from the stands, some even suggested that they are better off without the Brazilian.

“Leave Cunha on the bench for the rest of the season,” one fan wrote, with Cunha being pictured scrolling through his phone during the game.

“Buzzing with that, give Cunha splinters sat on that bench until the end of the season now,” another said.

“Look so much better without Cunha,” a third commented.

“We work so much better as a team without Cunha. Fact,” another agreed while a sixth replied: “To me keeping Andre & Gomes is more important than keeping Cunha. Build the team around them pair.”

One fan even wildly suggested that Gomes is the replacement for his teammate. They wrote: “Joao Gomes is literally the Cunha replacement im not even sorry his ball carrying is on par if not better than Cunha.”

Life without Cunha looks promising

There is no doubt that Cunha is an exceptional footballer He’s capable of producing quality that no other player in the squad can replicate.

The former Atletico Madrid striker has the ability to become world-class and if he fixes his attitude, his potential can take him to the very top.

But Cunha has always been more of an individual than playing for the team, with the 25-year-old looking after himself first and foremost.

Interestingly, Cunha’s work rate has been criticised by both Gary O’Neil and Pereira, suggesting he needs to improve off the ball to reach the top level.

Currently, Wolves look like a better all-round team without the Brazil international, as they’re no longer reliant on his individual quality and instead, the likes of Strand Larsen and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde are stepping up.
