Sky pundit says 24-year-old Wolves player did not enjoy himself against West Ham

Wolves have lost 3-0 to West Ham United this afternoon at the London Stadium in the Premier League.

Having drawn against Nottingham Forest last weekend, fans had hoped to see a much better performance down in the capital.

Arguably, Wolves gave a much worse one.

Wolves were all at sea in the first-half, showing sloppiness on the ball and vulnerability at the back. Wanderers started to play a bit in the second-half, but a goal from Jarrod Bowen completely killed the visitors.

Gary O’Neil set up with a back four for the first time in a while – and West Ham just found it far too easy to play against.

One man who looked particularly shaky today was Toti Gomes…

Toti Gomes is usually such a reliable operator, but today he really struggled playing as a left-back and with no wing-back to get back in and help out.

He was up against winger Mohammed Kudus and the Ghana international was just a thorn in his side the whole time he was on.

He completely lost track of him for his second goal, with Lucas Paqueta easily able to play him in on goal.

Toti just couldn’t get a grip of him, and just before half-time, Kudus was threatening to get past him again on the right wing and Toti could only throw him to the ground to stop him from bursting away.

It led Sky commentator Alan Smith to say: “He’s not enjoying himself in that let-back position, Toti. Being twisted and turned.”

Toti lasted until the 70th minute, when he was replaced by Rayan Ait-Nouri. As he was trudging off, Smith said that he had had ‘a tough day at the office’.

Toti could be struggling to keep starting berth after West Ham defeat

Toti today was perhaps the most uncomfortable he has looked in a Wolves shirt.

He is normally such a dependable defender but playing left-back in a back four is not something he is massively used to, and perhaps O’Neil got it wrong putting him in there against the electric Kudus.

Toti will probably do well to get his starting berth for the next game after this performance.

He also had a fairly poor outing against Forest, and O’Neil might now be thinking about a change, with Santiago Bueno, Hugo Bueno and Rayan Ait-Nouri all options.
