Simon Jordan shares what Gary O’Neil privately told him about Matheus Cunha – it’s concerning

Matheus Cunha has made headlines again in recent days after conducting a new interview, and now Simon Jordan has made come concerning comments about Wolves’ talisman after previously speaking to Gary O’Neil about him.

Cunha spoke about his future, and admitted that he had offers to leave the club in January, before he signed his new contract.

Wolves fans were left annoyed by Cunha’s comments, with many feeling they were unnecessary and tone-deaf.

Some also did not appreciate the fact he made them after letting his teammates down recently after getting a second ban this season.

Matheus Cunha is a superb player.

But for some, all the noise around him is now starting to wear a bit thin.

Yesterday on talkSPORT, former Crystal Palace owner turned pundit Simon Jordan spoke about Cunha, and revealed a very interesting chat he previously had with Gary O’Neil about the player.

Jordan said on talkSPORT (31/02, 12:06pm): “He doesn’t need to say it. Whatever reason he’s saying it for, one has to think it’s ill-advised. But he’s talking the truth, the reality is the club have signed a contract with him primarily to protect their position, knowing he’s going to go in the summer.

“All he’s stating is what the implicit agreement is. Maybe, who knows, there’s some Machiavellian reason behind the fact the club are starting to re-nag on the agreement they had with him, and starting to indicate to him maybe they won’t sell him now they’ve got him on a three-year deal. Maybe there’s some of that going on who knows.

“I had a conversation with Gary O’Neil about him and what a good player he was, and how potentially challenging he was to the other players because of the manner in which he wanted to operate and felt that he was beyond questioning about things such as timekeeping and other things like that.

“No doubt this boy can play. No doubt this boy is a top club player. Whether he can get away with what he’s getting away with at Wolves at another club… guaranteed a big club will take him. Like, every player who is a problem managers think they can solve problems, so they think ‘this won’t happen to me’.

“If he goes to a bigger club environment where the dressing room is bigger, bolder, more standard-oriented dressing room, with all due respect to what’s happening at Wolves, then maybe he won’t be allowed to get away with that. But he is a player.”

Jordan went on to say he does not like Cunha’s histrionics on the field and didn’t like his behaviour after the defeat to Ipswich Town.

Cunha should have never conducted interview

Cunha has since taken to social media to defend himself and to try and say his comments were being misinterpreted.

But it isn’t washing with many, who feel Cunha is digging himself a hole.

The Brazilian is one of Wolves’ best-ever players in terms of natural footballing ability.

But it feels like he is being advised poorly. He may have been complimentary about Wolves in this new interview and stated he is happy at Molineux.

But he also said what he said about wanting to fight for ‘bigger things’, and while the comments weren’t made with malice, they are just not a great look.
