Simon Jordan makes claim about Fosun that will infuriate some Wolves fans

Wolves owners Fosun are once again the target of fan fury at Molineux.

Wolves slipped to another defeat in the Premier League on Saturday, losing 5-3 to Brentford and putting in a very concerning performance.

Wanderers were all at sea at the back, which has been a recurring theme of the season so far.

After the full-time whistle, some Wolves fans could be heard chanting for Fosun to go. For many, the owners are mainly responsible for the current mess, and not manager Gary O’Neil.

At this point, many believe that Fosun have not provided adequate backing for the club in recent years.

Yesterday, Simon Jordan was speaking about Wolves’ current predicament – and his sentiments likely won’t be shared by too many disgruntled supporters.

Fosun have been fairly unpopular with a lot of Wolves fans for some time now.

Heading into the season, the Wolves owners irritated fans by increasing ticket prices, and there were also frustrations over the club spending less money than they brought in through the sales of Pedro Neto and Max Kilman, despite there no longer being PSR worries.

It has long been Fosun’s goal for the club to be self-sustaining.

For former Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan though, fans should not be taking issues with the way Fosun run Wolves.

He said on talkSPORT yesterday: “I remember Wolves when they were in the third division, so I don’t understand how this ownership model is the problem.

“Ultimately, Wolves’ ownership had a go and now they have got to pull their horns in a little bit and they have got to balance their books.

“They have got to restructure themselves in such a way that they put themselves in a difficult position. So they can’t take all the upside, I am not defending the owners here, but you can’t take all the upside as Wolves fans when your team were languishing outside the Premier League for God knows how long.”

Wolves fans are entitled to be angry

Jordan’s comments here will not go down well with the majority of fans, many of whom have been vocal about Fosun’s running of the club for a long time now.

For a lot of people, the perception is that Fosun are simply not ambitious enough for a club of Wolves’ size.

Arguably, Wolves’ current situation is no surprise after some questionable comments earlier this year from chairman Jeff Shi, who said: “If you only pursue trophies or consistent European football, Wolves might not be an ideal choice.”

For many, that line just summed up the mentality from those at the top.

Wolves had to sell a lot of players in the summer of 2023 so that they wouldn’t breach PSR rules. But last summer, the conservative spending was down to Fosun.

As O’Neil did last season, previous managers Bruno Lage and Julen Lopetegui have also previously complained about not having a big enough squad. When multiple managers make the same claim, you have to question those at the top.

Just because Fosun did brilliantly well in the first few years at Molineux doesn’t mean fans can’t now be annoyed at the way they are running things. Especially given how much money those loyal supporters are being charged to watch the team struggle every week.

At the weekend, Stan Collymore sent a warning to Fosun regarding how the fanbase is currently feeling, and it may now be that things start getting toxic at Molineux.
