Simon Jordan blasts Matheus Cunha’s actions at Wolves as ‘problem’ claim made

Matheus Cunha is a divisive figure, someone capable of winning a football match on his own but also losing it with a moment of madness.

This was evident during Wolves FA Cup defeat to Bournemouth at the start of March. Cunha dragged his side level with a stunning equaliser and was then sent off on the stroke of penalties after lashing out at Milos Kerkez.

Cunha faced a four-match suspension for his actions, which saw him miss the draw to Everton and wins over Southampton, West Ham and Ipswich Town.

The 25-year-old returned with a bang on Sunday, as Cunha scored against Tottenham after Vitor Pereira left him on the bench.

It was some response by the Brazilian, who had angered supporters in the build-up to the thrilling clash at Molineux.

Simon Jordan shares long rant on Matheus Cunha

Cunha posted a controversial message on social media last week, and although he quickly deleted it, he landed himself in hot water with supporters.

Not for the first time, the Brazilian hinted at what life will be lacking after leaving Molineux, prompting anger from the fanbase.

But whilst Cunha appeared to apologise to Wolves fans on Sunday after marking his return with a goal, the gesture hasn’t been lost on Simon Jordan, who blasted the forward for his actions live on talkSPORT.

“I think you’ve got to look at what people do rather than what they say, he’s gone on a football field, scored a goal and he signed a contract which protects Wolves position a little bit more than perhaps it would have done if he hadn’t signed a contract,” Jordan said.

“He then decided to tell everyone how wonderful he was for doing that. It’s like some people give money to charity and do it anonymously, some people want to be given a pound back for it. I always tend to praise the ones that do it anonymously more.

“He did something that was of mutual benefit to both the football club and himself and that’s where it should have started, begun and ended. I know I defended him last week against the narrative that we were peddling that he should be flogged at dawn for it but I think that, keep digging at it, keep poking at the situation, you brought this upon yourself, you didn’t really do it out of charity to Wolves.

“There was a commercial benefit, you probably got a pay rise in the short term and protected Wolves interests as well. But you also looked after yourself, so don’t paint yourself as a saviour. Leave it alone.”

Jordan highlights clear Cunha ‘problem’

Cunha tried to paint himself as a saviour after returning with a bang against Spurs but his actions have been unacceptable and it’s a warning to those chasing him.

Interested clubs have been put off by Cunha’s discipline, which is no surprise as he’s been suspended twice this season.

But, Jordan has highlighted another ‘problem’ that is common among ‘mercurial’ forwards, and that is not admitting when they’re in the wrong.

“The problem with mercurial players is that you don’t know where the rationale of being contrite and aware of the nature of your personality which is ambitious and mercurial,” Jordan added. “And that personality brings out a different set of judgement calls that most people would think you probably shouldn’t make.”

Worryingly, Cunha’s ego is too big to apologise and accept his error, instead feeling that scoring a goal is enough to make fans forget, but it won’t.
