Wolverhampton Wanderers youngster Theo Corbeanu played 90 minutes for the first time yesterday for Sheffield Wednesday.
The Canada international was selected to start against the Newcastle United U21s in the Papa John’s Trophy.
Corbeanu made his debut for the Owls against Morecambe last weekend.
That was only a 24-minute cameo at the Mazuma Stadium.
But he got a full game yesterday, with Wednesday cruising to a 3-0 victory.
Goals came from Sylla Sow, Marvin Johnson and Liam Palmer.
The League One side simply had too much for their young opposition. Statistics after the game indicated Wednesday had 67% of the ball and 29 shots in total.
And Corbeanu, who played right wing, gave a pretty good impression on his first full game for the club.
It is an important season for Corbeanu, after being given a very brief taste of the Premier League by Nuno Espirito Santo last term.
League One should be a good experience for him, as he seeks to improve his physicality.
Hopefully come this time next year, he’ll be a first-team squad player at Wolves having enjoyed a successful spell at Hillborough.
On social media, some fans really heaped the praise on the 19-year-old for his display against Newcastle.
It seems some particularly enjoyed his desire to be direct with the ball:
I tell you what I’m looking forward to our right hand side with Jack and Theo Corbeanu… he looked sharp last night, I know it’s only one game but I was impressed #swfc #wawaw

Looks exciting, pacey, goes at his man every time and can swing a ball in 👍

Corbeanu, Wing and Palmer my standout performers today… But there’s been plenty of good performances.
Granted, it’s against an U21 side, but you can only beat what’s put in front of you – and they’ve never looked under any sort of pressure. https://t.co/HgIdZ7axXi #SWFC 🦉⚽️

Have watched, with half an eye whilst working, the first half of Wednesday’s clash with Newcastle United’s U21s. Wednesday well on top on every department. Theo Corbeanu looks bright and promising. Sylla Sow off the mark and also looks hungry. Good signs. #SWFC
