Shaun Derry believes that Pedro Neto is the Wolves player who is the closest to ‘perfection’ out of the current crop.
The Wanderers first-team coach has made an appearance on The Football Gods podcast with Tim Spiers and Kate Mason.
Derry came in as part of Gary O’Neil’s backroom staff after Julen Lopetegui had left the club, leaving Crystal Palace to link up with the 40-year-old.
He came in and things have been pretty full on for O’Neil, Derry and co, with Derry describing his first few weeks at the club as ‘full blast’. But many Wolves fans are pleased with what they have delivered so far.
There has been a lot to like about Wolves so far this season, and one of the shining lights for Wanderers has been the form of Pedro Neto, someone Derry is a huge fan of…
Shaun Derry hails Pedro Neto and believes he’s the closest Wolves player to ‘perfection’

Neto has been sidelined for the past few weeks for Wolves having picked up a hamstring injury against Newcastle United. Hearts were in mouths when he pulled up, and there were huge concerns when he left the pitch on a stretcher.
But Neto’s injury was not as bad as first feared and he is set soon after the international break. Neto provided fans with an update on his recovery during Wolves’ game with Tottenham last weekend, saying that things were ‘better than expected’.
Prior to his injury Neto had been in the form of his life, having provided seven assists in the Premier League.
Derry sees him all the time in training and hailed the Portuguese livewire during his podcast appearance.
When asked for the current Wolves player closest to ‘perfection’, he said: “(Being) the kind of romantic football fan/supporter… of course, I’ve loved working with Pedro Neto. He’s a remarkable young man, very serious about his football but plays the game with a smile on his face. He’s got this enthusiasm for the game which is infectious.”
Neto on course for stardom
Neto has started the 2023/24 season on fire and it has been so thrilling for Wolves fans, who know the player has had a tough couple of years with injury.
He’s back on the sidelines at the moment but thankfully his latest setback is not too serious and he will be back in the team again soon.
Hopefully, he can pick up where he left off, and have a massive impact for Wolves this season.
This term, through his assists and goal against Luton Town, he has reminded everyone of his quality and potential. Clearly, it is not just about natural talent with Neto either, with Derry talking up his genuine love for the game. That will take him far.
