Schalke sporting director releases statement after star spotted during Wolves vs Man Utd

While all the focus at Molineux on Monday was on the Wolves protests, the presence of a Schalke star in the stands has caused quite a stir.

The game itself was painful from a Wolves perspective, but it would have been entertaining for a neutral with five goals scored.

Rob Edwards wasn’t pleased with what he saw from Wolves, and he’s not alone.

FC Schalke striker Moussa Sylla was watching on as well, and it’s his presence at the game that has spurred their sporting director to speak out.

Schalke sporting director addresses Moussa Sylla at Wolves

Sylla got a fair bit of attention from the German media after being pictured at Molineux to watch some Premier League action.

Many wondered if a January move was on the cards for the 26-year-old. Why else would you subject yourself to watching Wolves this season?

The Mali international is preparing to go to AFCON very shortly, and panic was in the air with some wondering if he had played his last game for Schalke.

Frank Baumann, sporting director for the German outfit, felt obliged to address the situation.

As is reported by RUHR24, he explained: “It’s perfectly normal for footballers to watch other clubs’ games. This shows that our players are also interested in football, which isn’t a bad thing.

“That’s why I’m extremely relaxed about it, and it was all right. We assume that he will play many more games for us after the winter break.”

No transfers on the horizon, then.

Sylla and his teammates had a couple of days off from training, and he decided it was the perfect opportunity to go and see Edwards‘ side in action.

He might want to get his head checked.

Hard to predict what Wolves’ January will look like

There have been varying reports regarding Wolves’ plans for the January transfer window.

Some reckon it will be a fire-sale, preparing for life in the Championship, while others think Fosun will bring in some players to help the charge for survival.

A few weeks ago, Edwards said the January plan depends on results. Well, we’re less than a month away and the results speak for themselves.

One player who won’t be entering the fray is Sylla, regardless of how big a Wolves fan he appears to be.
