Sasa Kalajdzic and Chiquinho back at Compton for early recovery work

Wolves welcomed back Sasa Kalajdzic and Chiquinho to Compton Park this morning, as the duo bid to get fit for the new season.

The Wolves squad have not yet returned from their holidays to start pre-season.

But Kalajdzic and Chiquinho were both at the club’s training ground today as they seek to be available for that first game of the season against Manchester United.

The duo have both been working hard after each sustaining serious knee injuries in 2022.

Chiquinho did not play a single minute for Wolves in 2022/23, after picking up a very bad knee injury in a behind-closed-doors pre-season friendly against Burnley.

Chiquinho was extremely unfortunate to suffer such a bad injury, after being Wolves’ bright spark at the end of the 2021/22 season.

Kalajdzic also had rotten luck.

Just days after completing his transfer from Stuttgart, he was named in the starting XI for a Premier League game against Southampton.

The striker contested an aerial duel and landed awkwardly.

It was later revealed he had suffered ACL damage.

Both Chiquinho and Kalajdzic had operations, and have been on gruelling roads to recovery.

But fans were given reason to be positive about them today, as Wolves shared a video of them reporting back early to Compton Park. Wolves said: “Back early for some recovery work. We welcomed Sasa and Chiquinho back to Compton this morning.”

Chiquinho has actually been back training outdoors for a while now. But he just wasn’t quite ready for minutes at the end of 2022/23.

Brilliant to see Kalajdzic and Chiquinho back at Compton so soon – they could be key for Wolves in 2023/24

Hopefully both Kalajdzic and Chiquinho will both make good progress in the coming weeks with their respective recoveries.

They were both so unlucky last season.

Kalajdzic was hoped to be the solution to Wolves’ long-standing goalscoring issue.

And Chiquinho looked a real livewire at the end of the 2021/22, following his £3 million January move from Estoril.

They’ve both got qualities that could really help Wolves in the new season.

In an ideal world, both will be able to get some minutes in pre-season before that first game with United on August 14.
