Ruben Neves sends ‘special’ message to Wolves in memory of loyal supporter Steve Plant

Ruben Neves may be thousands of miles away in Saudi Arabia, but the midfielder’s heart is still in Wolverhampton.

Wolves bid farewell to their adored captain in the summer of 2023, seeing Neves end his six-year association with the Midlands club.

While the 27-year-old departed to embark on a new journey in Saudi Arabia, his time at Molineux has not been forgotten, as is clear whenever the Portugal international speaks about his former club.

Still playing a part in the Portugal national team and impressing at Al-Hilal, Neves proved doubters wrong after transferring to the Saudi Pro League, with his move not clouding the opinion of Wolves fans who still adore the midfielder.

Ruben Neves pays tribute to Wolves supporter Steve Plant

Neves was integral to Wolves’ success on their return to the Premier League both on and off the pitch, with his dedication still evident in the West Midlands.

Recently, the former skipper paid tribute to loyal Wolves supporter Steve Plant, who passed away in September.

Plant lived for Wolves, writing the book series They Wore The Shirt, as well as being an avid supporter of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, whom he raised over £100,000 for.

The Stourbridge-based supporter was a well-known figure around Wolverhampton, with Neves taking the time to play a part in a touching tribute to Plant.

“I was honoured to write the foreword of the book and to share with everyone a bit of my story in Wolverhampton. That six years meant a lot to me and to my family,” Neves said whilst wearing last season’s Wolves shirt.

“This is even more special because this is a tribute to someone who spent their life supporting Wolves, who loved Wolves and I hope he can feel the love of everyone and I’m sure he’ll be very proud of this.”

The former captain spoke with great passion and emotion when describing his time at Wolves and the impact that Plant had on the club, being a supporter as loyal and dedicated as they come.

Neves will always be special to Wolves

It’s very rare that a club is blessed with a player like Neves, not only for his quality on the pitch.

The Portuguese star holds the passion for Wolves that fans desire in every player, with his love for the club travelling with him to the Middle East.

Neves wasn’t the only former player to pay tribute to Plant, with a list of well-loved others also celebrating the life of a truly remarkable supporter.
