Moutinho will now seek a new challenge, after an absolutely brilliant stint at Molineux.

The 36-year-old leaves the club having provided spectators with some fantastic memories.

After signing in 2018 for a fee of just £5 million, Moutinho quickly set about showing his class at Wolves.

His ability to dictate games and make things look so easy quickly endeared him to supporters.

He was absolutely key in helping to establish Wolves as a Premier League club after promotion, helping the side to achieve back-to-back seventh place finishes.

In recent times, Moutinho’s powers have waned as expected, with the player now entering his late-thirties.

He didn’t see quite as much game time for Wolves in this past season, and was reduced to more of a squad player role in 2023 following the arrivals of Mario Lemina and Joao Gomes in January.

But his first few years at Wolves were sensational, and the star is undoubtedly one of the finest players ever to wear the club’s shirt.

Since the news broke that Moutinho would be leaving, a number of players have posted brilliant tributes to him on social media.

And one of those came from Ruben Neves, the man who has thrived at Molineux playing alongside his fellow countryman.

Ruben Neves makes interesting remark in social media message to Joao Moutinho

Neves took to Instagram to send a heartfelt message to Moutinho, which the veteran re-posted to his own Story.

Neves said: “Sou um privilegiado por ter partilhado o meio campo contigo durante 5 anos!! Sou com certeza um jogador melhor devido a isso!!”

that translates to ‘Privileged to have shared the midfield with you for five years!! I’m definitely a better player because of it!!

Neves then signed off with an interest remark. He said: “Obrigado por tudo velhote!! A gente volta a encontrar-se tu sabes onde.”

That translates to ‘Thanks for everything old man!! We’ll meet again, you know where’, and the star included a wink face at the end.

Who knows what this could mean.

It could well suggest the pair may one day play on the same team again, which many Wolves fans would no doubt love to see.

It might even mean Neves plans to join a club Moutinho will end up managing. Only time will tell…
