Ruben Neves praises Diego Costa on BT Sport after 2-0 win over Crystal Palace

Wolves captain Ruben Neves lavished praise on Diego Costa after the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace last night.

Wanderers have moved nine points clear of relegation thanks to the huge win at Molineux.

It was a fast start from Wolves, who went ahead inside two minutes when Joachim Andersen turned into his own net.

Palace threatened throughout the game and really applied the pressure in the second-half especially.

But Wolves stood firm and ground out a result, with captain Neves concerting a penalty in injury-time after Pedro Neto was taken out by goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.

The win was massive, and Wolves are now all but safe. Just a couple more points ought to be enough.

Last night, many Wolves fans found themselves praising striker Diego Costa once again.

In recent weeks he has been brilliant leading the line, with Matheus Cunha supporting.

And last night, he was absolutely superb. Costa was the perfect outlet for Wolves. On several occasions players fired the ball into him and everything stuck.

He ran the channels, and he also nearly grabbed a second goal in three games when he brought down Hugo Bueno’s cross before the opening goal.

Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Neves couldn’t hide his feelings about Costa, saying (via Wolves official): “Diego is a fantastic player. I’m really happy to play alongside him, everyone’s happy to have him at the club. A player that was six months without football came here and is so motivated to help us. I think everyone knows Diego from the past.”

His display will only increase the noise about a potential contract extension.

The deal Costa signed when he arrived at Molineux was only until the end of the season.

Many didn’t even expect Costa to start last night, following the quick turnaround from weekend.

But Julen Lopetegui chucked him in again, and he gave a great performance.

Without doubt, Costa has played a huge role in Wolves pulling away from the relegation zone.

He has come into the team and been utterly infectious with his energy. It’s rubbed off on everyone and it has helped to raise the standard.

Pablo Sarabia talked up his impact leading up to last night’s game. And last week, Max Kilman also stated he has been brilliant for the dressing room.

Surely, conversations will be taking place behind the scenes about handing Costa an extension. The manager, the fans and the Wolves players absolutely love him, and it’s difficult to now imagine the squad without him.
