Wolverhampton Wanderers have won for the first time in the Bruno Lage era, beating Real Betis 1-0 yesterday.
The team bounced back from the 1-0 defeat to Crewe Alexandra, with Patrick Cutrone scoring the winner in Cadiz.
The Italian was well placed to convert a low cross from Nelson Semedo.
It was not a great game, with the pitch making things difficult. There were also some questionable refereeing decisions.
But it was just important for players to get minutes, and for Lage to get a closer look at his new players.
One man who got his first minutes under Lage yesterday was Ruben Neves.
The midfielder is back with the team now after going to the Euros with Portugal.
The club were releasing photos and videos, but Neves was nowhere to be seen until Friday.
Some were concerned he had not travelled to Marbella, amid transfer speculation linking him with Manchester United.
But Neves is there – and he’s gearing up for 2021/22.
It remains to be seen if he’ll stay at Wolves beyond the current window.
But perhaps his latest social media post is something to be encouraged by.
Neves uploaded an image of him from yesterday’s game wearing the captain’s armband, along with the caption: “Feeling really well on the restart. A lot of work to do, but we are in a good way.”
