Ruben Neves pays beautiful tribute to Diogo Jota as he unveils new tattoo on Portugal duty

Ruben Neves has paid a beautiful tribute to his best friend and former Wolves teammate Diogo Jota by getting a new tattoo.

It has been two months since news of Diogo Jota’s death in Spain rocked the football world.

The star’s tragic passing is something that many are still trying to process even now.

It was a huge shock, and there have been countless tributes paid underlining how much he meant to so many people.

Jota was a special footballer, and an even better human being. He will never be forgotten.

He, of course, meant a great deal to Wolves fans, with the Portuguese attacker spending three years at Molineux before moving to Liverpool.

He helped the club to gain promotion to the Premier League and then become an established top-flight club, and he would impress on an almost weekly basis with his technical quality, relentlessness and ability to finish with both feet.

One man who knew him better than most was Ruben Neves, who has perhaps paid the most beautiful tribute yet.

Neves and Jota were extremely close.

The pair were at FC Porto and Wolves together and also played in the national team.

Neves was a pallbearer recently at Jota’s funeral, and will always look out for Jota’s family, saying in a recent Instagram post: “I’m going to make sure you’re always present and I’ll make sure that your loved ones never lack anything while you’re there, far away but thinking of us, waiting for us.

“Life has brought us together and now it can’t tear us apart.”

It is now the first international break of the season, and the Portugal squad is gearing up for games against Armenia and Hungary.

It’s the first camp since Jota’s passing, and Neves has now honoured Jota by getting a tattoo of them on his calf.

Portugal have also released a clip on X of Neves saying a few heartfelt words about Jota, in what is a very touching gesture.

This is not the only lovely gesture Neves has made to honour Jota.

Neves will now wear the number 21 shirt for Portugal, which was the number he used to wear.

This follows James Milner taking the number 20 at Brighton, with 20 being the number Jota was wearing at Liverpool.
