Ruben Amorim responds when asked if Matheus Cunha could swap Wolves for Manchester United

Speculation about Matheus Cunha’s future at Wolves is rife.

After a stellar season at Molineux, the Brazilian forward has been linked with some of the biggest clubs around.

One of these is Wolves’ next Premier League opponents, Manchester United having shown interest in Cunha for several months now.

And speaking to the media ahead of Sunday’s clash, Amorim did nothing to quell suspicions that his side will swoop for the tricky forward this summer.

Ruben Amorim coy on Matheus Cunha interest

Interestingly, Amorim explicitly referenced Cunha’s name, the only Wolves player he did this for, when talking about the Old Gold’s form under Vitor Pereira.

The 40-year-old said: “[Pereira] has really quality players. Cunha, all these guys, they have a real quality, they are fresh, so we know it is going to be a tough match.”

This led a reporter to ask a follow-up question to the former Sporting Lisbon boss of whether Cunha “could play for Manchester United”.

Amorim did not give much away in response, saying: “I just remember about Matheus [Cunha], that he is scoring a lot of goals. It is just that.”

Still, by referencing Cunha’s name when talking about his admiration for Wolves, the Manchester United manager has only added to speculation that the forward could ply his trade away from Molineux next season.

Newcastle, Arsenal and Nottingham Forest – other clubs interested in Matheus Cunha

Manchester United will face intense competition for Cunha’s signature should they try and bring him to Old Trafford ahead of next season.

Newcastle have made Cunha their top target this summer. Guaranteed to be playing European football of some kind, a move to St James’ Park is an attractive proposal.

Similarly, Arsenal have held a long-standing interest in Cunha, the Brazilian likely to add significant firepower in an area of the pitch the Gunners need to improve.

Amazingly, as revealed by Molineux News, Nottingham Forest are most likely to sign Cunha as things stand.

If Nuno Espirito Santo’s side maintain their form across the final six games of the season and qualify for the Champions League, it would give Cunha the chance to prove himself in the best club competition in the world.

Regardless of where the 25-year-old ends up, Wolves are clearly going to face intense competition to keep their star player.
