Rodrigo Gomes’ role at Wolves seems clear after new Rob Edwards verdict

Rob Edwards dropped a possible hint about Rodrigo Gomes’ role, after the Portuguese scored in Wolves’ back-to-back wins against Aston Villa and Liverpool.

The Old Gold have enjoyed a great past few days, after picking up six points in the Premier League.

It is likely too little, too late for a safety mission.

But Wolves are looking a lot better under Rob Edwards now compared to when he first took over, and certainly miles better than under Vitor Pereira.

A number of players have improved under him, including Rodrigo Gomes – who was the subject of praise from the manager today.

Just as he did against Villa last Friday night, Rodrigo came off the bench for Wolves against Liverpool and scored.

He has now taken his tally to five for the season, making him the team’s joint-top scorer alongside Tolu Arokodare.

It’s a decent return from the Portuguese star, considering he did miss several weeks earlier in the season with a hamstring injury.

There’s been clamour from many fans for Rodrigo to start starting games more regularly for Wolves.

But Edwards talked up his impact coming off the bench at his press conference today, suggesting he may well keep bringing him on in matches.

He said: “It’s great. Rodrigo at the moment, the impact he’s having, especially coming on in games, when the game starts to open up a bit – he’s a real danger.

“He’s a weapon for us at the moment when he’s coming on. So I’m loving what he’s doing for us at the moment, I’m really pleased for him.”

Livewire Rodrigo can be key for Wolves finishing strong

Rodrigo is a popular player at Molineux, as he’s someone fans find very easy to root for with his personality. And talent of course.

There has also been the sense with him that he is honoured to be playing for a Premier League club, which is clearly in his work-rate.

To see him score in back-to-back wins for Wolves is great, and hopefully more goals will follow.

Edwards’ verdict may well point to him continuing to use Rodrigo off the bench.

Perhaps he would be deserving of a start, but you can also see the manager trying to follow the same pattern Rodrigo has been setting.
