The career of Rodrigo Gomes has experienced an upward trajectory since Vitor Pereira was named as Wolves manager in December.
Wolves signed Rodrigo Gomes for £12.7 million from SC Braga in the summer, seeing him as a versatile wing-back and winger in Gary O’Neil’s system.
Despite starring against Arsenal on the opening day of the season, Gomes only started two more times under the Englishman and was instead regularly used from the bench.
O’Neil even said Gomes wasn’t ready for the Premier League, although the Portuguese gem soon dispelled that myth under Vitor Pereira.
The 21-year-old has started five times in all competitions while scoring in wins over Leicester City and Bristol City, proving his worth in the battle for survival.
Gomes hasn’t started in any of the previous three league games for Wolves but he’s impressively still keeping elite company for one key statistic.

Rodrigo Gomes is on the toes of Mohamed Salah for big chances created in 2025
Despite only playing 195 minutes of top-flight action in 2025, the 2003-born star has still created three big chances.
As per Squawka, this places him in the top 10 players in the Premier League for this metric, only trailing Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah by one and Arsenal star Declan Rice by three.
Premier League most chances created in 2025 |
Declan Rice – 6 |
Leandro Trossard – 5 |
Kevin De Bruyne – 4 |
Bruno Guimaraes – 4 |
Savinho – 4 |
Daniel Munoz – 4 |
Mohamed Salah – 4 |
Bryan Mbeumo – 4 |
Jota Silva – 3 |
Rodrigo Gomes – 3 |
Considering Gomes is used sporadically by Pereira while the rest mostly play 90 minutes for their clubs each week, it’s impressive that the Wolves man features among some world-class stars.
Rodrigo Gomes injury update
The Portugal under-21 international has often demonstrated his creativity down either flank this term but unfortunately, he wasn’t able to showcase such talent against Liverpool.
While Emmanuel Agbadou suffered a muscular injury during the match, Gomes and goalkeeper Sam Johnstone missed the match completely.
Gomes picked up a minor problem, as confirmed by Pereira post-match, and it sounds as though he could be available for the visit to Bournemouth this weekend.

The former Braga man will hope that, as long as he’s fit, he’ll make the bench and have an opportunity to come on for Rayan Ait-Nouri or Nelson Semedo in the second half.
