Rodrigo Gomes has already ‘combined really well’ with two key Wolves stars in pre-season training

Wolves’ summer arrival Rodrigo Gomes has been spotted linking up well with two players during pre-season training.

Preparation for the 2024/25 campaign is well underway in Gary O’Neil’s squad, as Wolves look to improve on their 14th-place finish of 2023/24.

The Old Gold showed glimpses of improvement under the manager’s guidance, with plenty of work to be done this summer to get the side in order ahead of next term.

The club’s three new arrivals have been working with the first-team squad in Marbella, as Rodrigo Gomes, Pedro Lima and Jorgen Strand Larsen look to impress O’Neil.

Wolves new boy Rodrigo Gomes spotted linked up well with two players in pre-season training

Gomes was the first signing to arrive at Molineux from elsewhere after Tommy Doyle made his switch from Manchester City permanent.

The Portuguese winger joined from Braga after a successful loan spell with Estoril and has since impressed in pre-season.

Present at Wolves’ training camp in Marbella is Express and Star journalist Liam Keen, who provided an encouraging assessment of who Gomes has gelled well with on the pitch so far.

Keen described the 21-year-old as being “quick and direct” in the wide areas, adding that he has “combined really well” with star forward Matheus Cunha.

Gomes was also credited with having formed a strong partnership on the flank with fullback Hugo Bueno, as Keen explained that the pair “linked up well”.

It’s a positive insight to learn that the young wide player is already forming connections on the pitch with his new teammates, hinting at how impactful he could be next season under O’Neil.

Gomes could be one to watch at Wolves next season

After the success of his 2023/24 campaign with Estoril, it’s no surprise that Wolves were lured to the talents of Gomes.

The 21-year-old was also wanted by La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, explaining that Wolves’ Portuguese history made his decision an easy one.

Last term, the winger contributed to 14 goals in the Portuguese top flight, scoring seven and assisting seven, flexing his ability to create and score from the flank.

Forming links with Cunha and Bueno hint at Gomes’ ability to utilise those around him to push forward, with the Brazilian being at the heart of all things positive in Wolves’ attack.

The early signs suggest that the youngster is impressing in his new environment, making him one to watch ahead of his debut Premier League campaign after a long summer of preparation.
