Rodrigo Gomes desperate for Wolves teammate he’s ‘inspired’ by to stay amid Tottenham interest

Wolves summer signing Rodrigo Gomes has made it clear that he wants to play with one player at Molineux next season.

Gary O’Neil made Rodrigo Gomes Wolves’ second signing of the summer transfer window, following Tommy Doyle’s permanent switch from Manchester City.

The former Braga starlet impressed on loan last term with Estoril, seeing the Premier League side work fast to capture him ahead of next season.

There have been some encouraging signs of the 21-year-old’s quality during Wolves’ pre-season training camp in Marbella, with the winger now speaking about the season ahead at Wolves.

Rodrigo Gomes admits he’s desperate to play with Pedro Neto at Wolves next season

In an interview with Express and Star, Gomes opened up about life at Wolves in the early days as well as expressing his admiration for Pedro Neto

The 21-year-old admitted he has been “inspired” by the winger’s form at Molineux, insisting that he hopes to learn from him after following in his footsteps.

“Pedro is from Braga and I grew up in Braga, when Pedro came to Wolves I followed him a lot because he’s from Braga, the same position as me and I like his style of play.

“I saw him and tried to learn from the things he did on the pitch. I was always inspired.”

All Wolves fans will hope to see Gomes’ wish come true with reference to playing with Neto next season, as the 24-year-old has been linked with a possible move away this summer.

In the interview with Liam Keen, Gomes shared his desire for Neto to remain at the club ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

“For me, yes (I want him to stay at Wolves), because then I can learn from him more closely as a team-mate and because he’s a top player who will help us a lot.”

Being able to play on either flank, it would be a dazzling prospect to see Gomes and Neto line up together in the Old Gold however, it could be unlikely given the latest instalment of transfer news.

Tottenham are interested in signing Neto this summer

There is an understanding that Wolves will allow Neto to leave if his £60m asking price is met this summer.

Speculation has surrounded the winger since last season as his form wowed many in the Premier League, with Fabrizio Romano now reporting Tottenham’s interest.

Speaking in a video posted to Playback, the renowned journalist revealed that Spurs “absolutely” have interest in the Wolves star as they look to strengthen their attack.

“There is appreciation from Spurs for Eberechi Eze of Crystal Palace – and also with all of the other options we always mention here like Pedro Neto, this is absolutely confirmed.

“So Tottenham like Eze and like Pedro Neto, and they have decided how much they want to spend in that position. So there is an internal conversation, but they will bring in one more player in that position for sure – one more offensive player.”

It would be gutting for Wolves to sell Neto to a Premier League rival however, this is somewhat expected given that the Old Gold have placed a high asking price on their jewel.

Clubs outside of the Premier League are in less of a financial position to spend big on the Portugal international, as his future at Wolves remains in limbo.

For Gomes and everyone associated with Wolves, there will be a hope that the forward remains at Molineux next season despite building interest in his services.
