Rodrigo Gomes aims subtle dig at multiple Wolves stars after Nottingham Forest defeat

Wolves were on the receiving end of a 3-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest but Rodrigo Gomes could hold his head high.

It’s been a frustrating campaign for Gomes, who was promised regular first-team football under Gary O’Neil after arriving from Braga in the summer.

However, the Portugal under-21 international only started three times in the Premier League in 16 matches, with O’Neil criminally underutilising the youngster.

Now, under the watchful eye of Vitor Pereira, Gomes has flourished as a left wing-back, scoring in the 3-0 win over Leicester City and being the shining light for Wolves in the loss against Nottingham Forest.

Gomes, who was praised by Lee Naylor last month, was a constant livewire down the left flank and swung in some tantalising crosses that his teammates failed to convert.

Rodrigo Gomes takes swipe at Wolves teammates vs Nottingham Forest

There was one moment in the first half when Jorgen Strand Larsen should have got Wolves back on level terms.

Gomes sent in a delightful cross that the Norwegian got on the end of however, his header was straight at Matz Sels, who proved unbeatable between the posts.

This was one of several chances the 21-year-old created and after the game, he was left frustrated that his teammates couldn’t take one of their many opportunities.

“Me and Pedro [Lima] create a lot of chances and did very good crosses, we created a lot of chances to score,” Gomes told the Wolves’ official website.

“Unfortunately, we didn’t score any goals, but we need to work on that. We need to score the goals, because if we scored a goal, I think the game would have been completely different, and maybe we could have won the game. We need to improve ourselves, keep working hard and hopefully we win the next game.”

Pedro Lima leaves Gary O’Neil with egg on his face

Since O’Neil departed Molineux, Pereira has flexed the full strength of his squad and used players who were cast into the shadows under O’Neil.

Alongside Gomes, another one of the stars to benefit from the new managers’ methods is 18-year-old Pedro Lima, who was awarded his Premier League debut in the absence of Nelson Semedo.

Lima started as a right wing-back and showcased his attacking prowess with two key passes, three accurate crosses and an 80% pass completion.

Now, the Brazilian has left his former manager with egg on his face as O’Neil suggested Lima wouldn’t make his Premier League debut this season.

However, just a few weeks into his appointment, Pereira has already noticed the talents of the teenager and the man who they signed from Sport Recife should start against Bristol City.
