Rob Edwards will be worried as Wolves risk double player suspension vs Brentford

Two Wolves players are just one yellow card away from a one-match ban, and against Brentford, Rob Edwards will be hoping they escape punishment.

The official appointment for Saturday may help alleviate those fears. The Old Gold have been handed a referee who has never been involved in one of their matches.

However, that official does average 6.5 yellow cards per match. With Liverpool looming after playing the Bees, missing out on two crucial players will not be ideal.

And Rob Edwards will be looking and hoping to avoid such punishment on Saturday afternoon.

Can Wolves finally win a Premier League game this weekend?

Wolves lost Joao Gomes to suspension due to picking up five yellow cards this season, and he missed the match against Manchester United a couple of weeks ago. It turned out to be a big blow.

The Wanderers struggled to make an impact in the game, and it was clear they missed the Brazilian in the middle of the park.

It was further evidenced by the fact that upon his return against Arsenal, Gomes was perhaps one of the best players on the pitch.

And now on Saturday, Rob Edwards will be fearing the same fate happening to two more of his stars.

Both Andre and Matt Doherty are one yellow card away from picking up a one-match ban. This would see them miss their festive fixture on December 27th against Liverpool.

Doherty was praised for his experience and quality vs Arsenal, so losing him for a matchup against a team like Liverpool could offer a similar blow to losing Joao Gomes against Manchester United.

Additionally, Andre is clearly an important cog in Rob Edwards’ machine. The midfielder has played maximum minutes for the Old Gold’s head coach.

Wolves have conceded the most fouls in the Premier League

Any chance of Wolves potentially laying off the fouls will mean the Old Gold will have to change their ways.

Currently, according to the Premier League, Wolves have conceded more fouls than any other side (233).

However, Brentford are also last for fouls drawn (136). It will be an interesting battle between a side that typically makes the referee busy and another that rarely gets decisions given.

Let’s hope it’s the former, and that Andre and Matt Doherty escape punishment on Saturday afternoon.
