Rob Edwards told he only has three ‘very good’ players at Wolves

Wolves’ squad has not shown itself to be Premier League quality, and it has now been suggested that there are only three that are.

This season is looking disastrous for Fosun and Jeff Shi, as the summer transfer window has left the Old Gold staring relegation directly in the face.

Fans have reached their limit, and now protests against the Wolves’ ownership are planned to take place.

Even if the club can rectify the issues within the squad in January, by that point, it may be too late to turn the ship around.

And now a former Premier League footballer has pinpointed just three players that are at the level needed for the top flight.

Wolves seem set to break Derby County’s points record, and barring a turn of form, they most likely will.

Alan Shearer believes the Old Gold could end up on fewer points than the Rams did, and one of the members of that squad has spoken up about Wolves’ situation.

Robert Earnshaw was part of that infamous Derby side, so he certainly knows what to do and not to do in the relegation fight.

And the former Wales international has pinpointed the lack of talent within the squad.

Speaking about Wolves’ lack of quality, Earnshaw said (via BBC Sport), “Those moments from top players which change games, in an instant, in five or six seconds – Wolves have not got that at all.

“They can’t score goals. You should be creating four or five good opportunities every half, and they can’t buy a goal because there’s no quality there.

“They’ve got some very good players – Andre, Joao Gomes, Strand Larsen – but something’s not quite right. Is it confidence, ability, or not looking forward to the challenge? If you are dreading it as a player, that’s a real worry.”

While Joao Gomes and Andre are two of Wolves’ better players, this season Strand Larsen has not lived up to that title.

However, it has to be said that you do not score 14 goals in the Premier League without having the quality for the top flight.

The Norwegian has just one goal to his name this campaign, and in truth, the Wanderers rarely look like they can score right now.

And that seems to be the clear issue around his poor form.

STAT: Wolves have not registered a Premier League goal in 9 hours and 6 minutes of football. This includes added time at HT and FT. Marshall Munetsi’s strike against Burnley in October was the last league goal for the Old Gold.

That does garner some sympathy for the forward, as he has often been isolated up top, and the lack of creative forces around him has not helped either.

David Moller Wolfe believes they must do better in this aspect.

However, the reality is that the top strikers in world football are able to create their own opportunities to score, and Wolves’ number nine has been shown to be unable to do so.

Both things can be true. Wolves need to supply him better, and Strand Larsen needs to step up more.
