It’s official, Rob Edwards is Wolves’ new manager – and Middlesbrough have today released a statement.
Vitor Pereira was sacked on November 2 after the dreadful defeat to Fulham. And 10 days later, the search for his successor is over.
A move for Edwards has been on the cards for the last few days following a breakthrough at the weekend which saw Boro grant Wolves permission to speak to him.
Edwards had previously played down speculation about Wolves on two occasions, and as a result Boro fans are deeply unhappy about the situation.
Edwards has come under fire from many fans and pundits for his decision to leave Boro just months after being appointed.
Simon Jordan was particularly ferocious about Edwards’ move to Wolves, and plenty of others have questioned his decision, accusing him of lacking loyalty and integrity.
Certainly, it hasn’t been a nice exit – and Boro’s official statement that has just been put out reflects that.

Middlesbrough release statement as Wolves officially appoint Rob Edwards

It is safe to say that Edwards is no longer a popular man on Teesside.
The 42-year-old’s decision to join Wolves has been controversial to say the least, and the feeling at Boro is clear from the statement they have just put out.
In it they confirm Edwards had made it clear that he was keen to join Wolves.
And they say they ‘reluctantly’ agreed a compensation fee with Wolves.
Interestingly, they then talk about how the Riverside Stadium came together last weekend after Edwards had been stood down for their game with Birmingham City, saying ‘you could feel the sense of unity which is at the core of our club’.
Perhaps a parting dig, but Wolves fans won’t care too much, with the Edwards era now officially underway.
Frustration for Middlesbrough, but Wolves get their man
One can completely understand Boro being unhappy over how this played out.
Edwards had struck up a good relationship with the fans and had been doing a great job.
But, as Charlie Adam suggested this week, this was Edwards’ big opportunity, and he felt he had to take it.
Perhaps it may not have come around again, and hopefully Boro fans will eventually be able to understand Edwards’ choice.
