Jeff Shi and Fosun have not been popular figures among the Wolves fanbase over the last few years, but new head coach Rob Edwards believes a decision has been made that will benefit the club massively.
Over the last month, there has been a huge shake-up at the club. Not only has Vitor Pereira left, and Rob Edwards has come in to replace him, but Domenico Teti also departed.
The Italian only oversaw one transfer window as the club’s sporting director, and it would end up being one of the worst for the Wanderers, despite anyone saying otherwise.
The summer of 2025 was a brilliant transfer window in Jeff Shi’s eyes…
The strategy to sign young players with a lack of Premier League experience has well and truly backfired, and it was a crucial part of Vitor Pereira’s struggles.
However, after Teti left, the board did not take long to restructure at the management level of the club, and Edwards is a fan of their latest decision.
Rob Edwards believes Matt Jackson is a brilliant appointment for Wolves

Matt Jackson has been appointed as Wolves’ technical director joining the leadership team at the club.
The decision to internally promote Jackson was not met well by fans, who were underwhelmed by the appointment.
However, Rob Edwards does not agree with supporters in this case, as he has completely backed Jackson to succeed.
Rob Edwards spoke on the decision to appoint Matt Jackson as technical director, saying (via Wolves), “To have someone around who knows the club inside and out is important. I’ve been getting on really well with Jacko since we’ve been in the building, so we’re building a really good relationship with him, and he’ll be part of that team that will inform the decision-making.
“It’s really good because it probably stops some of the noise and people talking outside, and they can see that there’s a plan there now. Matt will be a really key player in that role, but he’s part of the team, and it’s a really positive move.”
A brave call from Fosun?
There is some hope ahead of January with Jackson as technical director. He understands the lack of Premier League experience has been an issue for signings, and hopefully that means a shift in recruitment strategy going forward.
However, that may end up being too little too late, and there is a chance that survival falls away from Wolves before then.
Additionally, his appointment will not ease fans’ frustrations, with Jackson admitting Jeff Shi will still have a big influence.
Matt Jackson has a big point to prove
Matt Jackson is already starting off his tenure as technical director with it all to prove. The lack of trust by fans will have to be addressed, and the only way to do so is through good decision-making.
Fans have grown overwhelmingly frustrated with the higher-ups at the club, and they will not have much patience for them now.
Matt Jackson’s first interview as technical director
Any poor decision by Jackson will be crucified by fans, and it is understandable considering the position Wolves have been left in.
However, Liam Keen is another who thinks this restructuring could be beneficial for the club, but that will not alleviate fears that this could end up being yet another Jeff Shi mistake that the Old Gold have become all too accustomed to.
And that will not change until the club starts to trend upwards again.
