Rob Edwards’ response to whether Jorgen Strand Larsen is lacking confidence for Wolves is telling

Saturday’s game with Arsenal saw Jorgen Strand Larsen again struggle in a Wolves shirt.

The Old Gold fell to a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium, losing right at the death via a Yerson Mosquera own goal.

It was a hammer blow for Wolves, who had worked so hard defensively to get a result – and a point would have been deserved.

Wolves fans, was the 2-1 defeat to Arsenal the hardest loss to stomach so far this season? 🤔

The final statistics don't really tell the full story!

But Wolves switched off after Tolu Arokodare’s equaliser and were made to pay.

It meant a 10th straight defeat for Wolves, and although there were positives to take, Rob Edwards simply has to stop the rot.

And key to doing that will be to get Jorgen Strand Larsen firing again.

After Saturday’s game, the Wolves manager was asked about his number nine and whether he is lacking confidence right now – and gave a defiant response.

Strand Larsen has scored just one goal in the Premier League this season.

That came via the penalty spot in the 3-2 defeat to Burnley back in October.

There was an uncomfortable moment recently for Strand Larsen when fans sarcastically cheered him off against Manchester United.

Unfortunately, another disappointing performance followed against Arsenal, and now there is a debate about whether he should be dropped. Many Wolves fans are clamouring to see Tolu Arokodare start, supported by Mateus Mane and Fer Lopez.

Edwards was asked about his number nine after the defeat to Arsenal, but is adamant that there is no confidence issue at the moment. And he believes the tide will turn.

“Sometimes you have to give him some leeway and recognise the lack of service he is getting.”

He said: “I just think this is how it can go for strikers. I thought he scored a great goal at Villa the other week, it obviously got chalked off with the offside decision.

“He’s fighting and working really hard for the team and good things will come if you keep working really hard as he is, good things will come.”

Edwards’ comments suggest he’ll keep picking Strand Larsen

It will be interesting to see Wolves’ starting XI against Brentford, but Edwards comments here do suggest that he will stick by Strand Larsen.

That said, he was probably also going to give a defiant response about his number nine.

It’s been a really difficult season for Strand Larsen, who’s suffered from losing key creative players around him and also with his fitness. Indeed, Steve Bull asked fans to give Strand Larsen some leeway, believing he is ‘running himself into the ground but getting no service’.

But the overwhelming feeling is that he could be doing more, and that some of his displays just haven’t been good enough.

There’s no doubt he is working hard behind the scenes to improve and there are always positive things said about his character and professionalism. But Wolves need much more up top than they’ve been showing.
