Rob Edwards points towards another Wolves announcement after Paul Trollope

Wolves are set to kick off their new era under Rob Edwards after succeeding Vitor Pereira.

A selection of the Wolves players will have had only a matter of days working with Rob Edwards after returning from international duty.

Jorgen Strand Larsen was one of those, and he managed to grab a late goal in Norway’s 4-1 win over Italy, which is hopefully a sign of things to come.

Elsewhere, Jean-Ricner Bellegarde qualified for the World Cup with Haiti for the first time since 1974.

Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?

So the Wolves players are certainly in high spirits as we head into the Rob Edwards opener against Crystal Palace, but it will all mean nothing if they don’t perform on the pitch.

The new Wolves boss will be accompanied by Paul Trollope after he was announced as another addition to Edwards’ backroom staff earlier on this week.

Wolves set to add to Rob Edwards’ backroom team

After Harry Watling and Trollope’s additions, it doesn’t appear as if Wolves are done yet.

Speaking in his first Wolves press conference, Edwards hinted at potentially two more appointments over the next week or so at Molineux.

There were rumours of Joleon Lescott taking up a coaching role back at his old club, but there has since been doubt cast over that potential move.

However, one thing that is for certain is that former Wolves players are supposedly being eyed.

Are Wolves planning for the Championship?

Of course, there’s every possibility that Wolves can avoid relegation with 27 games still left to play and memories of pulling off a recovery last season. However, being winless after 11 games is a new low.

Edwards led Middlesbrough to second in the Championship prior to his departure and they had one of the best defences in the league.

Jeff Shi and Rob Edwards hatch a plan

“I spoke about it with Jeff. We have a job on our hands this season, but I do want to be here long-term. To do that I need results. We have to be realistic, but my focus is on doing a good job and making sure we’re a PL club next season, but there is some realism too.”

So there may be a bit of preempting from Jeff Shi, it appears, with potential relegation in mind and a swift return from the Championship with a relatively proven manager.

And the fact that Edwards even addresses ‘realism’ hints towards that kind of forward thinking.
