Rob Edwards’ past managerial jobs give hope for positive start to life at Wolves

Rob Edwards will be hoping to start life as Wolves head coach on a positive note, and his previous job history hints this could be the case.

With Wolves still without a win this season, supporters will be hoping to see a quick turnaround of form under the new manager, and Steve Bull has urged those fans to get behind Rob Edwards.

A look back at the job history of the new manager can give a glimpse into how quickly fans can expect him to instil his ethos, and it does make for good reading.

Edwards has held four permanent jobs in the professional pyramid, and at each of them, the same pattern has emerged during the opening few fixtures.

Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?

Rob Edwards has been a quick starter at previous jobs

Wolves fans and Rob Edwards will be hoping history repeats itself, as the new head coach typically does well in the early days of his job.

At his previous four managerial roles, he has lost just two games in his opening five fixtures across each club.

Additionally, he has won 44 points from a possible 75 points throughout those games as well.

It is the kind of record Wolves desperately need. If they are to climb out of the relegation zone, they must begin doing so as soon as possible.

Edwards seems to epitomise the common trope of ‘new manager bounce’, and the urgency for results cannot be overstated.

However, the former Wales international repeating those feats may be more difficult now based on the fixtures and quality of opposition ahead.

Rob Edwards’ opening five fixtures are far from ideal

While Edwards’ record is solid, his first five matches for the Old Gold will make keeping that pattern alive quite difficult.

At his previous roles, those opening few games came in the lower levels of English football, and not the Premier League.

It presents a completely new challenge for Edwards in retaining his reputation as a quick starter.

Edwards will no doubt be helped by the fact that the opening match of his tenure is coming at Molineux.

The crowd will be excited to see how their new head coach sets up, and if he can get them up and off their feet with some good football, the atmosphere could help bring Wolves to a good result.

It won’t only be the fans who will be anticipating the new era, as players such as Yerson Mosquera could also be revitalised under Rob Edwards.

It is certainly an exciting few weeks ahead for Wolves, and let’s hope the unexpected can happen.
