Rob Edwards must rectify one abysmal Wolves statistic as Crystal Palace come to Molineux

The Rob Edwards era is now underway, and the new Wolves manager is immediately presented with a terrible statistic ahead of the Crystal Palace game.

The Wolves hierarchy parted ways with Vitor Pereira at the start of the month following a dreadful start to the 2025/26 season.

Pereira’s position became untenable at Wolves, even thought he was only handed a new contract weeks prior.

Rob Edwards has now replaced Vitor Pereira and so far, the noises coming out of Wolves before his first game this weekend have been positive.

Marshall Munetsi has said Edwards has made an instant impact at Wolves, and believes the appointment will be really positive.

But Edwards doesn’t have an easy run of fixtures to begin with, and it’s Crystal Palace up first on Saturday at Molineux.

And there’s one pretty awful stat that Edwards will need to try and rectify.

Wanderers are still without a win in the Premier League this season and Edwards could do with one coming early doors.

But Palace will be a tough test, as they usually are.

Wolves have fared pretty badly against the Eagles in recent times, and have actually recorded just a single win in the last nine meetings.

Seven of those nine meetings have ended in Palace victories, with the other being a draw.

Wolves’ only win in those last nine meetings came at Molineux in 2023 on the watch of Julen Lopetegui.

A Joachim Andersen own goal and a Ruben Neves penalty handed Wolves victory that day, which was huge in terms of the team’s push for safety at the time.

It is certainly a tricky first game for Edwards, because Palace are a great side under a brilliant manager in Oliver Glasner.

They’ve been going well so far in the Premier League and sit 10th, but just two points off the top four. That’s a great position to be in considering their European exertions as well.

Wolves are beginning a new chapter though, and Molineux could be rocking for Edwards’ first game.

There will almost certainly still be negativity aimed at the club’s owners. But fans will be firmly behind Edwards and the players, and hopefully that will be a significant factor.

Three points in the very first game of the Edwards era would be fantastic, and also potentially serve as a major catalyst moving forwards.
