A major development in Wolves’ manager hunt as a Middlesbrough announcement hints at Rob Edwards departing.
It has been less than a week since Pereira’s dismissal, but there has been no shortage of rumours about who will succeed the Portuguese.
But by all accounts, Rob Edwards is the main candidate to take over at Wolves.
Since Gary O’Neil stepped back from Wolves manager contention, the Middlesbrough boss — whose side are currently third in the Championship — became frontrunner for the job.
And news emerging from The Boro on Friday points to progress being made in the deal.

Middlesbrough have cancelled Rob Edwards’ press conference
In a surprise turn of events, Edwards’ pre-match press conference ahead of Birmingham has been abruptly cancelled.
Scheduled for 1pm, it emerged just two hours before that it would not be going ahead.
This could be for a multitude of reasons, but the most probable — by some distance — is that Edwards is edging towards a Molineux return.
It’s still not 100%. Middlesbrough don’t want to lose Edwards. But this kind of announcement is usually followed by a bigger story.
We’ll be keeping our ears to the ground for more information as the day unfolds.
Rob Edwards record for Middlesbrough
Edwards had a stint in the Premier League two seasons ago. He was unable to keep Luton Town up, but their form since he left indicates that he wasn’t the problem.
Since joining Middlesbrough in the summer, Edwards has been brilliant.
They have flown out of the gates and hold the third spot in the table, playing some really exciting football.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 3 | 14 | 7 | 5 | 2 | 17 | 12 | 5 | 26 |
A promotion-winner, Edwards knows English football and would be a smart hire for Jeff Shi and Fosun.
With Middlesbrough set to be in action at 3 pm on Saturday — five hours before Wolves — it’s anyone’s guess as to which dugout he will be in.
