Rob Edwards drops hint over Tolu Arokodare after Wolves’ defeat to Crystal Palace

Rob Edwards dropped a hint about Tolu Arokodare following Wolves’ defeat to Crystal Palace.

Wolves fell to a 2-0 defeat in Rob Edwards’ first game in charge at Molineux.

It was always going to be a tricky first game for Edwards, with Palace having started well this season. But there was disappointment yesterday as the Eagles weren’t at the races for the first hour or so.

Wolves’ best performer in the disappointing Crystal Palace loss?

But they couldn’t capitalise, with the lack of quality in and around the box Wolves’ undoing again.

Palace then scored twice in six minutes through Daniel Munoz and Yeremy Pino.

Edwards admitted after that Wolves had no one to blame but themselves for the defeat, and also reiterated that this was never going to be a quick fix.

After the game though, the Wolves manager did reserve some praise for Tolu Arokodare.

Edwards made a lot of fans happy ahead of kick-off yesterday, as he lined up with both Jorgen Strand Larsen and Tolu Arokodare.

Edwards used two strikers on occasion at Middlesbrough, so some did wonder if Arokodare and Strand Larsen would play in a partnership.

Sure enough, they did.

The pair put themselves about although sadly neither scored. But Arokodare caught Edwards’ eye and it seems like he could now be in line for more minutes.

He said after the game: “Tolu’s done really well this week for us, and I’ve liked him, and I thought he worked extremely hard today. We’ll get more from him the fitter he gets. He’s not at full power I don’t think quite yet. But he worked really, really hard for the hour or so that he was on.

“I’m looking forward to getting more from him. I think he believes in what we’re trying to do. If we can get them right at it, you wouldn’t want to play against those two.”

Arokodare needs better service

We have seen this season how Arokodare – who was spotted having a conversation with Oliver Glasner after the game – can be a threat with the right service.

The two goals he has scored were really well taken, so it’s just about getting the Nigerian into goalscoring opportunities.

Adam Wharton spots a big change Rob Edwards has already made at Wolves

“They were tough to beat. They got in their shape and were compact. We got there in the end.”

But creativity has been an issue all season for Wolves, who have scored just seven goals in the Premier League so far.

At least though for Arokodare, it sounds like Edwards is a fan and that he intends to use him more than Vitor Pereira did.

It was bizarre to see how few minutes he got under the Portuguese, but Edwards’ comments do indicate a greater role for him moving forwards.
