Rob Edwards’ decision to join Wolves branded ‘strange’ as ‘fractious’ Fosun raise doubts

Rob Edwards’ move from Middlesbrough to Wolves is edging closer, with reports stating he will be on his way to Molineux in the coming days – but that hasn’t stopped one journalist labelling the move a ‘strange decision’.

Rob Edwards has impressed at Middlesbrough this season, registering a run of form which has seen them into second place in the Championship table.

However, that has naturally brought about interest from Wolves, who sacked Vitor Pereira at the start of the month after a 3-0 loss to Fulham left them with two Premier League points from 10 games.

But, despite Edwards’ ties to the Old Gold, journalist Henry Winter has stated that it is a ‘strange decision’ by Edwards to make the move to Molineux – due to the difference in ownership and board trust.

Henry Winter: Rob Edwards’ move could be ill-fated as Fosun heavily criticised

Edwards’ upward rise with Middlesbrough this season has seen Wolves – the club where he spent the majority of his playing career – come in for his services on a managerial level.

The 15-time Wales international has evidently got emotional ties from his time at Wolves, and the chance to manage in the Premier League may be too good to turn down despite the evident downfalls at Wolves at present, which Theo Walcott highlighted.

And that has seen Henry Winter label the move a strange decision, due to Middlesbrough’s upward trend and Wolves’ sorry spiral down the Premier League table.

The main reason that Winter gave was Wolves’ owners, Fosun, having put the club in a mess by selling key players in recent years.

Whilst Middlesbrough have also done so, they have spent adequately to forge a real strong go at promotion – whilst Wolves haven’t kept up in the Premier League relegation scrap.

With Wolves’ protests against Fosun, and the natural upbeat resilience that Middlesbrough are showing to keep their fans on board, it does hold some credence but it appears the pull towards the Old Gold is too strong.

Fosun must support Rob Edwards in the January transfer window or relegation will be imminent

Edwards will need help from the board, and they simply aren’t doing so at the moment.

Henry Winter went on to call Jeff Shi out for damaging a famous club, one that is currently fractious despite boasting huge support.

Edwards will want to return to the Wolverhampton area, given he was born in nearby Telford, and that alone will see this one through.

But if Fosun don’t give him money to spend in January, the writing will already be on the wall.

Eight points off safety and with some incredibly tough fixtures to come, Wolves are right up against it and being so far adrift by the end of January could only end one way.
