Rob Edwards’ challenge of a Wolves win vs Liverpool evident as Opta projects the winner

Wolves’ task of a win against Liverpool is monumental, with the reigning Premier League champions finding form after a run of poor results.

On the other side, the Old Gold have yet to turn their fortunes around, with a first Premier League win of the season still eluding them.

Chris Sutton believes this game could suit Wolves, and after the strong performance against Arsenal, there is no doubt the Wanderers can cause Liverpool issues.

However, Rob Edwards will be without two key defenders on Saturday. Emmanuel Agbadou’s AFCON participation means he is unavailable; meanwhile, Toti Gomes has picked up a hamstring injury.

Now, Opta has given its verdict on Wolves’ chances.

If Wolves manage to get a result at Anfield, it would certainly be a shock.

Liverpool are the reigning Premier League champions and are now unbeaten in their last five games.

For Wolves, they have lost their last ten games, and that has made their chances of a win extremely slim on paper.

According to Opta’s supercomputer, the Old Gold have just an 8.3% chance of winning and a 12.9% chance of securing a draw.

This leaves the home side as the overwhelming favourites with a 78.8% chance of a Liverpool win.

Wolves fans, in one word, describe how you are feeling ahead of Saturday’s game.

The odds certainly do not play in Wolves’ favour, but a computer cannot predict what will happen on the pitch.

However, Liverpool are not great opponents for Wolves, with the Reds, more often than not, getting one over on them.

But there was one time it was the opposite way around.

The last time Wolves beat Liverpool in the Premier League

Over the last 17 times Wolves have played Liverpool, the Wanderers have only won a single game.

This came in a 3-0 win back in February 2023. The Old Gold took the lead through a Joel Matip own goal, with Craig Dawson and Ruben Neves adding to the score.

From the starting XI that competed in the victory, only Jose Sa and Hwang Hee-chan remain at Molineux, with Hugo Bueno and Dan Bentley the only other members of that squad still at the club.

It highlights just how far Wolves have fallen. They once had a side that could dominate and emphatically defeat a side like Liverpool.

Now, their likely starting XI to face Liverpool on Saturday will only feature Jose Sa.
