Ridiculous Daniel Podence statistic emerges as Olympiacos beat Volos 3-0

Most of Wolves’ attackers are currently struggling with their fitness right now – but Daniel Podence, who is out on loan with Olympiacos – is absolutely thriving at the moment.

Gary O’Neil currently has Matheus Cunha and Hwang Hee-chan on the sidelines with hamstring injuries.

Pedro Neto also had to be withdrawn at the weekend against Newcastle United with hamstring tightness of his own.

Currently, Pablo Sarabia is the only natural winger who is fit and available.

Wolves came into the new season with a fairly small squad, with a plethora of stars leaving Molineux as the club sought to balance to books.

Daniel Podence was one player the club tried to sell but ultimately nothing materialised.

He left to join Olympiacos on loan and just recently, he has really been turning on the style…

On Sunday, Olympiacos faced Volos away in the Greek Super League.

They made it seven straight wins, beating Volos 3-0 – and Podence was the absolute star of the show.

He technically finished the game with no assists, but he was brought down for Olympiacos’ penalty, which was scored by Ayoub El Kaabi.

It is actually quite remarkable that Podence did get any assists, because he made a whopping nine key passes in the match (as per Sofascore), which is seriously good going.

He also created two ‘big’ chances.

It follows a string of pretty good displays recently from Podence, who has 16 goals and 10 assists to his name for the season across all competitions.

Podence will surely make permanent Olympiacos move

Podence is having a really productive season and at this point, it seems extremely unlikely that he will be coming back to Wolves.

The club tried to sell him in the summer, and the only reason he’s currently out on loan is because a suitable permanent offer was not forthcoming.

But Olympiacos are thought to have an option to buy Podence at the end of the season worth around £4.3 million – and it’s impossible to see how they won’t trigger it. He has also already suggested how happy he is at the club.

It may ‘only’ be the Greek Super League, but nine key passes in one game is genuinely extremely impressive, and they are going to want a player who makes such regular contributions in the final third.
