Rob Edwards’ time at Molineux is just beginning, and he has started to build the backroom staff behind him by teaming up once more with Paul Trollope – and Rickie Lambert is a fan of the combination.
Trollope was most recently at Southampton, where he worked under the now-sacked Will Still but has been without work since.
Following Rob Edwards’ arrival at Wolves, Trollope was one of the immediate names emerging to follow him, and it did not take him long to get another role.
Reports by Liam Keen say the 53-year-old is set to be confirmed as part of Edwards’ staff at Molineux.
The duo both worked together at Luton, where they oversaw the Hatters, who made a sensational return to the top flight via the play-offs for the first time since 1991/1992.
It will be good news for fans that Rob Edwards will have a man he both trusts and has a working relationship with as he looks to save Wolves from relegation.
Are you confident Rob Edwards will help Wolves avoid relegation?
But former Premier League striker Rickie Lambert may provide even more confidence for supporters with his comments from the summer.
Rickie Lambert’s thoughts on Rob Edwards and Paul Trollope will delight Wolves fans

Wolves fans will be given a lot of encouragement about the arrival of Paul Trollope, not only due to his previous roles with Rob Edwards, but because of how they work together.
Rickie Lambert has had previous experience with the duo, having admitted he met them during their time at Luton Town, and it is safe to say he was left impressed.
The former England striker recounted the story as he gave his verdict on Trollope joining Southampton in the summer, but his words may have more impact for Wolves now.
Speaking via the Daily Echo, Lambert said, “I went to see him and Rob Edwards at Luton to see how they were working together there. Honest to god, the way they worked together was one of the best I’ve seen.”

Wolves’ Premier League status is in doubt, and having coaching staff who already understand each other’s philosophy and way of working is a huge step as Edwards looks to make an instant impact in the relegation battle.
His first fixture being against Crystal Palace is tough, but Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville believe Wolves can get a result.
Wolves fans, how do you see Rob Edwards getting on in his first game against Crystal Palace?
The arrival of Trollope will provide Edwards with some early stability, and if Lambert’s verdict has just a sliver of truth, it will be a boost for the club.
Paul Trollope’s experience will be useful for Wolves
In terms of management, Rob Edwards is still fairly early in his career, and the arrival of a more experienced man will be a helpful aid.
Trollope has been working on the coaching side of football since 2005, with Edwards only beginning in the professional game with Forest Green in 2021/2022.
The pair were unable to save Luton from relegation a few years back, but the duo can bounce ideas off each other, as they certainly learnt quite a few lessons that season.
Trollope was alongside Edwards when they beat Crystal Palace in the 2023/2024 Premier League season, and history could repeat itself on Saturday.
Let’s hope their past work at Luton together can now be fruitful for Wolves against the Eagles.
The combination of Edwards’ fresh ideas in the modern game and the vast experience Trollope offers are exciting prospects, and Lambert’s words do back that up.
