Report: Wolves source claims Bruno Lage lost dressing room at the end of last season

Bruno Lage was yesterday sacked as head coach of Wolves – but he apparently lost the dressing room months ago.

The manager was informed of the decision yesterday afternoon, following Saturday night’s defeat to West Ham United.

The decision was supposedly brought forward, after Wolves officials saw the fan reaction to the latest 2-0 loss.

Lage showed signs of promise in late 2021 and early 2022 at Molineux.

But results have been poor either side of the summer, and Wolves officials have now acted decisively.

For many, it was simply a case of the same old story every week watching Wolves under Lage.

Pretty football here and there, but in the wrong areas. The lack of goals during his tenure was really disappointing, considering he arrived with a reputation for playing attacking football.

Wolves’ finish to the 2021/22 season really seemed to knock the stuffing out of the players.

And there is an interesting piece in The Athletic this morning which suggests trouble has been brewing for a little while at Molineux.

Apparently, according to one anonymous source at the club, Lage ‘completely lost the dressing room’ when the club finished the campaign with no wins in the final seven games.

The former Benfica coach was supposedly ’emotional’ and ‘temperamental’ with his players, and there were ‘multiple fallouts’. These issues set the tone moving forwards.

If claim is true that Bruno Lage lost dressing room months ago, then he was lucky to last as long as he did at Wolves

Wolves really did fall away at the back end of last season which was massively disappointing.

It seems all was not well behind the scenes.

If it’s true that Lage had completely lost the dressing room heading into the new season, then it is a surprise he lasted eight Premier League games into 2022/23.

Once you’ve lost a dressing room, it is very, very difficult to get it back.

There may have then been a big refresh in the summer. But Lage was unable to get a tune out of those that have come in.

It has been clear in recent weeks that Wanderers have been playing without a clear idea.
