Report: Julen Lopetegui could come into contention for Wolves, Ange Postecoglu considered

Wolves have reportedly sacked Bruno Lage following a poor start to the new season.

The club have acted decisively following yesterday’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham United.

Lage, in charge since the summer of 2021, has overseen a run of just one win in eight Premier League games in 2022/23.

It follows an awful end to the 2021/22 season, which saw Wolves fall away from European football contention to mid-table.

Many supporters had been calling for Lage to be sacked before the game with West Ham.

Yesterday’s result turned even more people against the 46-year-old, and the board have now acted.

The search is now on for a new man to lead this squad of very talented players.

According to John Percy in The Telegraph, Julen Lopetegui could potentially come back into contention for Wanderers.

The Spaniard is currently the head coach at Sevilla, but his future there is in serious doubt (via Marca).

Like Lage at Molineux, he has struggled this season, overseeing just one win this season in La Liga. Sevilla currently sit just one point above the relegation zone in 17th place.

And there have apparently also been discussions about Celtic manager Ange Postecoglu.

There are doubts over whether the Australian would leave his post at this point in the season though, with the Hoops currently top of the Scottish Premiership.
