According to a bold report from Sport yesterday, Wolverhampton Wanderers are one of the teams interested in Philippe Coutinho.
They claim Wolves, along with Liverpool and Everton, are ‘best placed’ to land the 63-cap Brazilian maestro.
Barcelona are in a dire financial situation at the moment.
The Spanish giants need to get high-earning players off their wage bill.
Coutinho’s time in Spain has been a massive disappointment.
He moved to the Nou Camp in 2018, but struggled to fit the team’s system.
He was loaned out to Bayern Munich for the 2019/20 season, but starts would be hard to come by in Germany for the star.
Barca are now looking to shift him, and Wolves are being linked.
The claim comes suspiciously after Coutinho’s name was doing the rounds on social media last week.
Some bookmakers then even had Wolves as the favourites to land the 29-year-old.
It is never happening
Barca may want rid of Coutinho. Coutinho may well want a fresh start. elsewhere.
But a move to Molineux is just out of the question.
Perhaps the player would be willing to take a big pay cut at his next club.
But currently, he earns €20 million (£17 million) per season (AS).
Those are astronomical wages, with Wolves’ top earner currently Joao Moutinho on £5.2 million.
